Event Report
The next generation development program conducted with Kei Nishikori, Shingo Kunieda and the FR Foundation for a total of 12 junior players, including the singles champion of the UNIQLO Japan Junior Tennis Championship 2024 and 2 others from the newly established wheelchair tennis category from 2024.
This initiative has been implemented since 2022 and has now been carried out for the third time.
Shingo and Kei provided practical advice to each junior player, helping them to identify and overcome their own challenges. This initiative allowed each player to set and achieve their own goals and dreams.
Shingo Kunieda and Kei Nishikori spoke to the junior players about the importance of getting to know themselves by identifying their strengths and weaknesses at the start of training, as well as their attitudes and goals as they strive to become higher level tennis players.
One of the players who was struggling with his backhand slice worked on overcoming her problems as Kei set an example while Shingo looked on.
By hitting with Shingo, the junior players were able to feel the powerful strokes and learn first-hand the strength of the wheelchair tennis player's upper body.
During the break, one of the female players asked Shingo for advice on how to hit her serve, and he was relentless in his efforts to improve his technique.
Dinner with Shingo and Kei provided a relaxed atmosphere and the conversation ranged from tennis to personal life, making it a precious and fleeting moment for the young players.
