Changing Colors, Unchanged Scenery
Pastel buildings are a perfect match for this season’s activewear. Up close, you can detect several careful layers of paint. If you compare photos from a few years back, some buildings have changed color entirely. This all started with the colorist trend led by local artist Butch Kardum in the 1960s, when many of the city’s iconic Victorian homes were painted vibrant tones, changing the face of San Francisco to this day.
This keeps things very interesting for runners. Thanks to the grid of streets, you’ll suddenly pass by a majestic view of the ocean, offering a glimpse of Alcatraz Island bathed in light.
Downtown, a railcar rattles up the street. The colors of the city may change, but some things about San Francisco never do. The hilly streets are truly unforgettable. If you have the chance to go for a run here, head for the picturesque lookout of Twin Peaks. The extreme slopes are sure to carve a space into your memory.
