Judges' comments

As judges for the UNIQLO Grand-Prix T-shirt design competition, I looked for a strong balance of storytelling, design and aesthetic accomplishment. At Pixar, the story is the most important aspect of any project, so we used that to ultimately pick our winning designs. All of the entries were very good, but in the end, we chose winners who drew us into their worlds and seemed to suggest a greater universe beyond what was on the shirt. It was the stories that really moved us.

GRAND PRIX

Takashi Ishizu Japan

I'm very honored to receive this award in the year of Pixar's landmark 30th anniversary. I have turned a number of Pixar characters into icons. It would be great if more people saw this design. Thank you very much for this honor.

RUNNER-UP PRIZE

Chris Sequeira United States of America

"Friendship is out there!" I drew inspiration for this design concept from Russell the Wilderness Explorer, the old man Carl and Dug the dog, which are characters in the Pixar movie "Up!" The three characters develop an unlikely bond and forge a meaningful friendship through the adventures they share.

PIXAR JUDGE'S PRIZE

Cheng Kar Wai Hong Kong

I love design, I love drawing.
I love Pixar, I love Monster University.

“Mine”

Masae Seki Canada

When I was young, I used to love finger painting. To this day, I still do! I'm glad that I still do what I love. It's like a dream come true to see one of my designs made into a T-shirt.

Katie Cantrell United States of America

I'm very grateful to UNIQLO and Pixar for this opportunity and award. In my designs, I wanted to celebrate the friendship of Woody and Buzz. They come from different places, but they still end up forming a bond that lasts "to infinity and beyond."
