Fellowship Program for Japanese Students at Harvard Business School and Harvard University Graduate School of Design

UNIQLO has established fellowships for Japanese students who have been accepted into the Harvard Business School (HBS) and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD), who do not already have corporate sponsorship. The fellowship program will provide world-class educational opportunities to promising individuals, regardless of their financial circumstances, to pursue careers as managers or designers. Recipients join the internationally diverse student body to study and cultivate their entrepreneurial skills and enhance their global perspective, preparing them for success.

2018 Application Requirements

UNIQLO Harvard Business School Fellowship

Number of Recipients : One

Amount : Up to US$200,000 (approximately JPY20 million) per recipient

Eligible Applicants : Japanese nationals not receiving corporate sponsorship, who have been accepted into the Harvard Business School for the school year starting from September 2018

Application Process : The following documents, in any format, must be received by e-mail by 
the application deadline : - Resume - An introductory cover letter explaining your interest in the fellowship and studying abroad.

2018 Selection Schedule : Document screening : Early April 2018 (TBD) Interview screening : April 13, 2018 (TBD) - All interviews are scheduled to take place at the Tokyo headquarters of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. Final decision : Mid-April 2018 (TBD) Final interviews will be conducted by Hirotaka Takeuchi (Harvard Business School Professor) and Tadashi Yanai (Fast Retailing Chairman, President and CEO).

UNIQLO Harvard University Graduate School of Design Fellowship

Number of Recipients : One

Amount : Up to US$200,000 (approximately JPY20 million) per recipient

Eligible Applicants : ・International students who have been accepted into the Harvard Graduate School of Design's Master's program (MARCH I, MARCH II) but do not have corporate sponsorship can apply for this scholarship. ・Japanese nationals will be prioritized, but qualified individuals from other countries will also be considered.

Application Process and Selection Schedule :

January 2 2018 Deadline Application to GSD Application and Portfolio Deadline: January 2, 2018 www.gsd.harvard.edu/admissions - To be considered for admission, you must achieve a minimum score of 92 on the TOEFL (with 23 or above in each section), however, 104 is the preferred score (26 or above in each section) for an applicant. 

Early February 2018 Deadline Financial aid application Applicants for the UNIQLO Fellowship must also submit a financial aid application by the beginning of February 2018 (available in January 2018). GSD International Financial Aid

Early March 2018 Admission decision Applicants will receive their decision regarding admission to the GSD in early March 2018.

Early April 2018 Finalist selection Once the application process is complete and a prospective student has been admitted to the GSD, a group of finalists for the UNIQLO Fellowship will be selected based on the quality of the portfolio and personal essay submitted as part of the application. Finalists will be notified of the decision prior to the beginning of April 2018. April 13, 2018 Interview The finalists for the fellowship, who have already been offered admission to the GSD, will then be invited to an interview with Toyo Ito (Architect, Harvard Graduate School of Design Frequently Visiting Instructor) and Tadahi Yanai (Fast Retailing Chairman, President and CEO). All interviews are scheduled to take place at the Tokyo headquarters of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. Mid-April 2018 Final decision
