- Global Partnership with UNHCR
Fast Retailing has worked in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) since 2006 to donate clothing to refugees and displaced people through its All-Product Recycling Initiative.
Together with UNHCR and international non-governmental organizations, donated items of clothing have been delivered to Africa, Asia and the Middle East. However, clothing needs continue to be high for the refugees and displaced people throughout the world.
Fast Retailing and UNHCR entered into a global partnership in 2011. The company and the UNHCR are working together to better respond to global refugee needs, including through awareness-raising activities and the promotion of self-reliance.
(1) Clothing Aid
Clothing that is collected through its All-Product Recycling Initiative is donated to refugees and displaced people in need, including in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
(2) Hiring Refugees at UNIQLO
UNIQLO currently employees refugees at its stores in Japan and Europe with plans to increase the number of refugees hired worldwide.
(3) Educational Support
UNIQLO employees visit schools throughout Japan to give presentations as part of the company's "The Power of Clothing Project". Children then conduct their own recycling drive to collect clothing from their communities, and the items are sent to refugees and displaced people. Afterwards, UNIQLO provides reports to the participating schools.
(4) Monetary Donations
Fast Retailing provides emergency aid that is matching local needs through monetary donations. The aim is to improve humanitarian assistance throughout the world.
(5) Awareness-Raising
UNIQLO is raising awareness on refugee issues together with UNHCR through initiatives (1) to (4), and joint events such as "World Refugee Day" and the "Refugee Film Festival" at UNIQLO stores, on the UNIQLO website and by SNS.
