Satoyama Landscapes
Satoyama refers to Japan’s beautiful rural landscape, where humans and nature coexist in harmony. Now that people are recognizing the importance of creating a sustainable society and protecting the environment, the value of Satoyama is being reevaluated. Artist Keigo Kamide has his roots in Kutani pottery and has a talent for transposing traditional craftsmanship to modern styles. In this collection, he uses the five colors of Kutani ware (green, yellow, purple, blue, and red) to tell stories of the Japanese wildlife that he encountered in the Satoyama, using a dyeing technique called tsutsugaki.
