5 GREAT ALTERNATIVES TO MACHINE WASHING CLOTHES

LifeWear
Most clothes never become worn out – they become washed out. We wash too frequently, or in the wrong way and that’s the most common reason why clothes lose their shape, colour & thickness. Unnecessary washing also contributes to overconsumption of water and energy.
Consequently, our best advice to prolong any garment's lifetime and live a slow fashion life – is to do as little laundry as possible. Here are five alternatives we suggest to simply washing your clothes.
1. STEAMING
A steamer is an efficient and more caring alternative to the iron and will leave your clothes smooth, wrinkle free and beautiful. Besides this, steaming is the best choice when you don’t want to wash. The hot steam reduces bad smells, kills bacteria, and removes all signs of the garment ever being worn.
2. AIRING
Make a habit of airing your clothes after wearing them. Fresh air might perform a miracle for any garment – but especially for clothes made of wool. Hanging your clothes outside overnight will remove odors and make your garments feel fresh and crisp again.
3. BRUSHING YOUR CLOTHES
A Clothing Brush is a far more sustainable and versatile alternative to a disposable plastic roller with sticky tape. Brush off dirt, hair and dust on everything from your woollen coat to your kids’ overalls.
4. STAIN REMOVAL
Pre-treatment of stains is key for a successful result. But please note that different stains must be treated in different ways.
The most common solutions are:
For protein-based stains (blood, ice cream, mud): surfactant-based stain remover or detergent.
For fat acids and grass: Bile soap-based stain remover & dishwashing agent. For wine and other harsh stains: oxy stain remover.
5. MISTING
By using a Clothing Mist (a lightly scented spray that contains an active bacterial culture), you’ll remove bad odours from your garments. A Clothing and Shoe mist will keep bad smells away by breaking down the odour-producing bacteria and replacing them with good microorganisms. Just put your garment on a hanger, spray the mist directly on the source of the smell and it’s ready to be worn again.
