THE POWER OF CLOTHING: A YEAR IN RETROSPECT

In the UK, we have continued fundraising activity and support for Whizz-Kidz, a national charity which provides disabled children with the essential wheelchairs and other mobility equipment they need to lead fun and active childhoods.
In June, we partnered with UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassador Gordon Reid to host an event at our flagship store on Oxford Street. We invited young people from Whizz-Kidz to attend and spend time with the Gordon, giving them the opportunity to ask questions, play games and enjoy some strawberries and cream. We also continued our ongoing work with Centrepoint, the UK’s leading homelessness charity. Centrepoint use sport and physical fitness combined with education, life skills and employment training to transform the lives of the young people they work with.
At the core of this is Centrepoint’s programme ‘Street Football Team England’, which sees male and female players who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion participate in competitive street football, representing their country on an international stage. In preparation for the team’s entry to this year’s ‘Homeless World Cup’, UNIQLO provided the squad with training and playing gear to help them perform at their best in the international competition. We also announced this Summer a new partnership with PARK SSC and a brand new collaborative UT collection of T-Shirts for women, designed to celebrate the power of women's football and deliver that message that the sport truly can change the world. Half of the proceeds from each T-shirt sold were donated to Chitral Women's Sports Club in Pakistan. Learn more about the project here.
From December 2nd to 24th, we pledged € 1 from the sale of every HEATTECH Thermal Top for women or men sold in any of our Spanish stores in collaboration with the Programa de preparación para el invierno from UNHCR. The collected money will be used to provide refugees and displaced persons in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt with thermal blankets which will help protect the most vulnerable from cold weather at this challenging time of year.
In France, we have continued a partnership with Samusocial which has endured for more than ten years. This Giving Tuesday (December 3rd), we launched an operation in conjunction with the humanitarian emergency service which saw a HEATTECH Thermal Top donated to a person in need for every two tops purchased by a UNIQLO customer.
For the last 5 years, UNIQLO Berlin has offered an annual shopping session to disadvantaged children in partnership with ‘Die Arche’, a charity which works with children and teenagers in need. In August this year, UNIQLO had the pleasure of accompanying 50 children on a shopping trip to our stores in Berlin and Cologne. Each received a voucher for € 30 to spend on whatever they like. For most children, this meant the new excitement of shopping alone for the first time.
In Italy, with the opening of our first Italian store in Milan, we created two eye-catching installations in the garden of Piazza Cordusio. UNIQLO customers have been encouraged to donated unwanted clothes into ‘il cubo della sostenibilità’ (‘The Cube of Sustainability’), which will be used to clothe refugees, homeless people and others in need thanks to work by the non-profit organisation Fondazione Progetto Arca.
