UNIQLO provides victims of the Los Angeles wildfires with clothing

The Heart of LifeWear Vol.5: UNIQLO Provides Victims of the Los Angeles Wildfires with Clothing

As part of The Heart of LifeWear, UNIQLO is donating one million items of HEATTECH thermal clothing to people around the world in need of assistance. For the latest round of aid, we provided emergency relief to the victims of the wildfires that broke out near Los Angeles, California, in January this year. As a first step, on Sunday January 19th and Sunday January 26th, five UNIQLO stores in Los Angeles distributed free clothing including HEATTECH thermals, sweatshirts, and socks.

When we asked local support groups what sort of clothing items were needed at evacuation centres, we found that many people were not able to bring sufficient changes of clothes with them when they evacuated, and that people were especially in need of underwear.

To meet these needs, we filled paper shopping bags with HEATTECH thermals, underwear, socks, sweatshirts and other items in men’s, women’s, and kids’ sizes and distributed them to those affected by the fires.

It was raining on the day of the distribution, and the temperature was dropping, so recipients were pleased to receive HEATTECH thermals and sweatshirts.

For this first phase of emergency assistance, we were able to distribute clothing to a total of 1,250 people over two days. UNIQLO plans to provide long-term recovery support going forward.
