Extra fine merino wool, with its incredibly thin fibers, produces a certain sheen and a vivid color palette. UNIQLO's aim has been to create beautiful colors consistently by dyeing the wool when it's raw, instead of after it’s been spun into yarn.
Easy-care, 100% wool.
Wool is a surprisingly dainty, natural material with a pleasing texture, which can sometimes require extra care. But at UNIQLO, we've worked out several ways to overcome that. With a special non-shrink treatment, this sweater becomes machine washable and prevents pilling, while retaining the material's elegant feel.
Elegance, even after repeated washing.
Natural materials are often considered difficult to care for. This wool is treated with shrink‑resistant and anti‑pilling finishes, while preserving its delicate texture. After 15 machine washes, as shown, there’s no noticeable pilling or fuzz - it’s hard to tell which has been washed and which hasn’t.*
*Tested by Kaken Test Center using JIS L1930 standards with a pulsator‑type washing machine. Garments were ironed after washing.

Using extra fine merino wool, known for its incredibly thin fibers, allows us to achieve vibrant color and elegant luster. To maximize these characteristics, we dye the wool before it’s spun, ensuring even color distribution over time. The wool is then transformed into beautiful thread through a process called "drawing", which aligns the separated fibers. While the knitting is done by machine, the linking of each part is meticulously crafted by skilled artisans. Finally, we apply a washable treatment to ensure the knitwear remains beautiful and easy to care for. The higher the quality of the knitwear, the more you’ll want to enjoy its comfortable fit every day, and our comprehensive production process embodies this ideal.
