Jorge Cuevas, father of the girls, posts content of them chatting on the family Instagram account Small Talk (@smalltalk.worldwide). These carefree exchanges have won followers all over the world. The day we visited, their neighborhood friend Cedar came over for some small talk of his own. “What kind of clothes do you like wearing?” “T-shirts and pants that feel good when I’m going crazy.” “What kind of crazy?” “Like when I’m climbing trees and rocks!” Conversation like this, so intuitive and frank, is such a major part of childhood.

Barrel leg jeans and roomy sweatpants are perfect for fun-filled playdates. These two look nice and comfy. “It’s denim but it’s soft and roomy. Just right for playing,” says Cedar.

Margot is wearing a souffle yarn sweater, nice and fluffy. The fair isle pattern gives the outfit playful elegance. Billie, who likes more tomboyish clothes, went for a light blue hoodie.

Capturing magic in the blur of everyday life

“If flowers need water, what do you need?”
“You!”
Visit the Cuevas family Instagram, and this is the sort of cute kiddo conversation that you’ll find. It all started from a desire to archive the amazing things these kids were saying.

“When we had our oldest daughter, I thought her voice was the most beautiful sound in the whole world. I couldn’t get enough. Once she started talking, her little mistakes and her pronunciation were incredibly cute. We took as many videos as we could,” said their mother Bethany.

The family started making Instagram posts of the kids talking to each other about three years ago. Adults tend to think before they speak, but kids blurt out whatever they’re thinking, which keeps things interesting.

“One day, I asked my youngest, Margot, ‘What should you do if someone is upset?’ Her answer blew me away: She said she would say, ‘What's wrong? I could be with you.’ Kids are way more philosophical than grownups give them credit for. It’s amazing how well they can convey their values,” says Jorge.

This isn’t about amassing followers. It’s about archiving family memories. That’s how they’ve won the hearts of so many people.

“The girls like being creative together, sharing their ideas and working together as a family. They’re learning teamwork along with practical skills like how to use a camera and convey concepts. Part of what gives Small Talk that special something is Jorge’s unique perspective, as the one behind the camera. Life can be such a blur, but he’s capturing the magic for us all,” says Bethany.

These girls are lucky to be raised by such adoring parents. And it’s worth noting the unique styles they sport on Instagram.

“They wear comfy clothes to relax and bright colors to feel creative. It all depends on how they feel and what they want to do.” We love UNIQLO because of the simplicity. It’s so easy to make outfits. The kids can do it all themselves, to save more time for adventures!” says Jorge.

Left to right: Bethany sits with her youngest, Margot. The oldest, Zara, sits next to her, while their father Jorge stands with Billie. “Zara is so brave and strong. Billie has an amazing sensitivity. Margot will jump back if anything crosses her path. She’s like a little butterfly,” says Bethany. Just after this photo was taken, the family relocated to New York.

Loose-fitting items in neutral tones give their style a modern look. The PUFFTECH parka for kids isn’t just light, it’s safe to wash. Billie loves hers because “It’s so warm!”
