This number gives an indication of how long skin would take to burn, compared to bare skin. It is a UV protection rating for fabrics and clothing. The higher the UPF rating, the greater the UV protection and the longer it will take for UV rays to damage your skin. (Guide to UPF rating: UPD 25 means that compared to bare skin, it would take 25 times longer to be exposed to the same amount of UV rays.) For example, UNIQLO's 100% Supima Cotton in white has a UPF of five, but when we add UV Protection technology, it has a UPF of 25.
Even summer styles in breathable fabrics and light colors can provide good UV protection. We've added UV Protection Technology to a whole range of products. Our collection includes items with UPF ratings of 15 to 40.
We have verified that the effectiveness does not decrease after 10 washes. For fabrics that absorb UV rays, the effect may gradually decrease after several years when the garment is washed repeatedly. For fabrics that reflect UV rays, the material is built into the fibers, so the effect is semi-permanent.
