To create the luxurious look and feel of our high-quality shirts, ultra-long cotton is used—which has the long, fine fibers of any cotton, and absorbs dye easily, resulting in deep, beautiful colors. We also adjust the yarn’s thickness and density to create the perfect color and fit.

A good shirt starts with good cotton.
The process of making cotton garments is not simple, and involves untangling cotton flowers to create material. Extra-long staple cotton, with thick fiber lengths of 35 mm or more, is high-quality cotton that is very smooth, soft and rare. At UNIQLO's factory, impurities are carefully removed from the block-shaped bales of extra-long staple cotton. The fibers are then twisted many times to gradually align in their direction, resulting in beautifully spun yarn.

Symmetrical beauty by hand.
Every detail is meticulous, and that’s the secret to making a beautiful shirt The fabric for patterned, extra-fine-cotton shirts is roughly cut and then adjustments are made by hand to ensure the patterns align perfectly. After each pattern is properly aligned, it's cut again. This two-step process ensures that the patterns for the collar, placket, sleeves, and cuffs are symmetrical, and that each part is finished beautifully without misalignment.
