    Horse Trainer, Dallas

    Jackie Neira

    Jackie didn’t grow up having her own horses when she was young, so she learned how to ride on other people’s horses. She moved from Florida to Texas to dive more deeply into her passion. Today she is an established horse-trainer, which is an expression of a love that started early on. She never received formal instruction on how to train horses, and instead learned through first-hand experience and persistence.     One of her goals is to compete in the national finals rodeo barrel racing competition.“I’ve had more bad horses under me than good horses and I’ve just had to make them good.” She abides by the motto: "Dream it. Do it."

    Marcello Andres Ortega

    Marcello Andres Ortega is a Dallas-based ceramic artist known for his unique sculptural pieces that blend traditional techniques with contemporary design. His functional work is rooted in cultivating conviviality and sentiment, inspired by the family-style dinners Marcello regularly experienced as the youngest of his Chilean-immigrant family.

    Marcello first discovered his passion for pottery in high school. Today, he shares his knowledge through talks and workshops with both students and adult learners, passing the gift of creativity forward across the community.

    Chef, Author, and Restaurant Owner, Houston

    Christine Ha

    Christine is a visually impaired chef who won “MasterChef" season 3. Her cookbook, Recipes from My Home Kitchen, was a New York Times best-seller. She speaks regularly about disability advocacy, and has served as a culinary arts envoy overseas for the American Embassy,

    Her first restaurant in Houston, The Blind Goat, was named a semi-finalist for 2020 Best New Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation. She was also named a James Beard finalist for Best Chef, Texas, in 2022. Her most recent concept, Stuffed Belly, opened in June 2023.

    “Because I'm visually impaired, I don't necessarily get to see what everything looks like,” says Christine.

    “But I hear the bustle that goes on while we're having dinner service. I hear glassware clinking, people laughing, the music playing. And I take that moment to think about how this space was nonexistent a couple of years ago, and we built it pretty much from the ground up.”
