Since November 2019, UNIQLO has eliminated plastic shopping bags in stores and is committed to an overall reduction of plastic in our supply chain.

In addition to switching to paper shopping bags, UNIQLO has implemented a bag charge of 10 cents and has pledged to donate 5 cents to charity: water, a non-profit organization funding clean water projects in developing countries around the world.

*5 cents from each bag between September 2023 - August 2024 will be donated to charity: water to help fund clean water projects around the world, up to $50,000.

Our Work

Clean Water Changes Everything

Girl drinking water

Around 297,000 children under the age of five die every year from diarrheal diseases caused by inadequate water and sanitation.

Girl in class

Less time collecting water means more time in class. Clean water and proper toilets in schools also mean that teenage irls don’t have to stay home for a week out of every month.

Women Empowerment

When a community gets clean water, women and girls get their lives back. They start businesses, improve their homes, and take charge of their own futures.

Economic Growth

Every $1 invested in clean water can yield $4–$12 in economic returns, depending on the region and type of project.

What Our Donations Will Support

Cambodian Family

In rural Cambodia, where nearly 80% of the population resides, safe water is hard to find. Since 2009, charity: water has partnered with Clear Cambodia to fund water-purifying BioSand Filters (BSF).
