Fast Retailing Unveils Next Phase of Fire Relief Efforts in Los Angeles, Providing Up to $2M in Funds and Clothing

Apr 30, 2025 NEWS
Fast Retailing, parent company of UNIQLO and Theory, has announced the next phase of its fire relief commitment in Southern California, first pledged in January 2025. The initiative includes $1 million in monetary funding and up to $1 million in product donations to support long-term recovery efforts and community resilience across regions impacted by the fires.

As part of this continued commitment, UNIQLO will partner with five nonprofit organizations—Street Soccer USA, National Forest Foundation, Kidspace Children’s Museum, Southern California Children’s Museum, and the Pasadena Educational Foundation—to provide targeted aid, youth programming, environmental restoration, and educational resources to rebuild a sense of community in the fire-affected areas. These organizations were selected for their profound local impact, commitment to long-term recovery, and alignment with UNIQLO’s values of community, sustainability, and access to education and opportunity.

The funding will support a range of community-based initiatives, including:

  • Street Soccer USA will establish a new park chapter in the Pasadena area to expand its youth development efforts through free soccer programming and life skills workshops for underserved families in fire-affected neighborhoods. These efforts include the opening of the UNIQLO Street Soccer Park & Learning Center, a permanent space designed to provide year-round access to safe play, mentorship, and education. The facility will include a renovated shipping container acting as a classroom setting and two turf soccer fields, which will serve as a hub for community connection and youth empowerment through sport.

“We are deeply grateful to Fast Retailing and UNIQLO for believing in the power of sport to heal and unite communities. With their support, we’re not just building a Park Hub—we’re creating a safe haven where young people and communities can learn and grow. This partnership is a testament to what’s possible when we come together for the greater good.”

  • The National Forest Foundation will reforest fire-damaged areas on the Angeles National Forest by planting 7,000 native trees. The donation will also support holistic steps in the reforestation process, such as seed sourcing, nursery capacity, and survival monitoring.

  • Kidspace Children’s Museum and the Southern California Children’s Museum will use funds to offer free admission to qualifying families and children affected by the fires. They will provide up to 9,500 tickets at Kidspace and 8,500 tickets at the Southern California Children’s Museum. The initiative aims to provide accessible educational experiences and moments of joy for young children and their families during the recovery process. Residents of these zip codes will be eligible to take advantage of this program: 90402, 90272, 90263, 90290, 91024, 91107, 91001, and 91023.

  • Pasadena Educational Foundation will host large-scale clothing distribution events at select Pasadena Unified School District campuses. The events will support families facing economic challenges and are made possible through generous product donations from Fast Retailing brands, including UNIQLO, Theory, and GU. Additionally, volunteers from UNIQLO and Theory will provide personalized shopping support.

“At UNIQLO, we believe in supporting the communities where we live and work - not just in moments of crisis, but in their long-term recovery,” said Yoshihide Shindo, CEO of UNIQLO USA. “We are proud to stand alongside these organizations, each of which is doing vital work to restore the environment, empower young people, and ensure equitable access to education and cultural experiences. These efforts reflect our deep respect for the resilience of Southern California communities and our ongoing commitment to support their future.”

This announcement follows Fast Retailing’s initial pledge for fire relief, shared in January 2025. As wildfires continue to present long-term environmental and social challenges across California, UNIQLO remains dedicated to working alongside local organizations to foster recovery. In developing this next phase, UNIQLO engaged in conversations with community leaders, educators, and nonprofit partners across Los Angeles to better understand the most pressing needs. These discussions surfaced three key areas where support could be most impactful: rebuilding a sense of community, restoring local ecosystems, and expanding access to education and enrichment of young people.
