UNIQLO and Theory Partner with Street Soccer USA in NYC

Jul 25, 2024 NEWS
Street Soccer USA (SSUSA), a non-profit organization, has been transforming the lives of underprivileged youth across the United States through the power of soccer. Since 2013, UNIQLO US has been the organization’s official apparel sponsor, donating DRY-EX, sweat, and other sportswear to Street Soccer’s athletes and coaches. Also, UNIQLO stores across the United States invite SSUSA chapters to special community shopping events, in which each player can pick a full outfit for free in a private shopping experience.

In 2024, UNIQLO deepened its partnership with SSUSA by piloting a new program in New York City that offers professional advice and developmental support to SSUSA’s young adults. This new initiative involves a multi-brand effort led by UNIQLO and Theory, with employees from across Fast Retailing organizations and brands volunteering their time and expertise.

The pilot consists of three sessions designed to provide hands-on support to 20 youth members of SSUSA aged 17-21. The program aims to help these young individuals with career development. Sessions include resume review and interview preparation, a store visit to discuss various roles and career opportunities within the retail industry, and a styling and donation session helping participants select professional outfits and taking a photograph for LinkedIn and professional purposes. Through this program, participants are given personalized feedback and engage in mock interview practice, gain valuable insights into the retail industry, and receive a boost of confidence as they step into the professional world.

“The thoughtful care and concern that the UNIQLO and Theory employees brought to these activities touched our players and staff deeply. Part of our duty at Street Soccer is to prepare our players for their next steps in life, translating soccer teamwork skills to workplace skills. This new dimension of our partnership with UNIQLO and Theory helps us fulfill this aspect of our mission at a level we never could on our own. The impact of their efforts at this critical juncture will be felt over a lifetime for each of our players."

“From the moment I learned about Uniqlo’s work with Street Soccer USA, I wanted to personally get involved and support the growth of this incredible organization. Fast Retailing’s commitment to nurturing and fostering talent aligns perfectly with their mission. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how providing these young individuals with clothing from Uniqlo and Theory can help build their confidence and open doors to new opportunities. I hope to see some of these talented youths join our organization and become the next generation of leaders.”

By expanding the partnership to include professional development support, UNIQLO and Theory are looking to support youth in achieving their career goals and building brighter futures. This initiative provides immediate benefits to the participants and hopes to identify and lay the groundwork for a scalable program nationwide.

"This program was amazing. Our young adults got to understand all the different opportunities in the retail industry, saw firsthand what it takes to run a store, and went home with a tremendous amount of professional clothing. This was such a valuable experience for our players as it helped open their eyes to the endless opportunities that are out in the world. Thank you so much to the Uniqlo and Theory team for showing us so much love."
