The event was celebrated at the UN headquarter in New York City. The theme this year was “Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals”, a call to action that recognizes the urgent need for individual and collective responsibility to foster peace.
Maher Nasser, Director of the Outreach Division in the United Nations Department of Global Communications commented, “We are very grateful for UNIQLO’s generous contribution of their ‘PEACE FOR ALL’ T-shirts to the 700 participants who gathered for the International Day of Peace Youth Event at UN Headquarters in New York in September. The world needs everyone, everywhere to contribute to the urgent and essential mission of promoting peace. UNIQLO’s ‘PEACE FOR ALL” t-shirt project which raises funds to support humanitarian action through UNHCR, Save the Children and Plan International is an example of how private sector partners can play a unique role in advancing peace.”
David He,a 20-year-old Canadian student serving as a Youth Advisor with the UN Human Rights Office and a representative to the G20, attended and spoke at the event. Upon arriving at the UN and seeing UNIQLO’s PEACE FOR ALL setup, he commented: "UNIQLO's collaborations have always caught my eye every time I browse through their stores. It's uplifting and affirming to see one of my favourite brands use their influence in such a meaningful manner! I can’t wait to see both the impact of this campaign and more of these shirts in stores. They remind us that peace is not just a diplomatic agenda, but a personal commitment that begins with each one of us.”
All the proceeds from these 700 t-shirts supported the PEACE FOR ALL project. Since its commencement in June 2022, 100% of profits from the sales of Peace for All T-shirts (equivalent to 20% of the selling price) have been donated evenly to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, Save the Children, and Plan International through their respective representatives in Japan. Worldwide, over 2.3 million Peace for All T-shirts have so far been sold, collecting US$4.77 Million for global peace activities.
Donations from the PEACE FOR ALL project have so far been used by partner organizations towards projects including helping to prevent early marriage in Vietnam, delivering food supplies and learning spaces for children affected by conflicts and natural disasters, and providing shelter and protection to forcibly displaced men, women, and children.
