Fast Retailing donates $10 million to UNHCR.
In the days immediately following the start of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, Fast Retailing worked quickly with our longstanding global partner UNHCR to organize a donation of US$10 million, plus essential clothing, to support humanitarian efforts for people forced to flee their homes. To help with the unfolding crisis, UNIQLO employees around Europe are helping as much as possible, engaging in local efforts to deliver up to 200,000 items of pre-loved clothing and new products, already pledged by Fast Retailing, to affected people fleeing Ukraine. Many team members have even made personal cash contributions to UNHCR fundraising efforts at customer donation points in UNIQLO stores and via a dedicated UNHCR fundraising website.

UNIQLO in Italy worked with a representative from UNHCR, Giovanna LiPerni, in its UNIQLO Cordusio store to raise awareness about the Ukraine crisis.

UNIQLO has worked with its longstanding partner, Berliner Stadtmission, to help support refugees in Germany. Each day, several UNIQLO staff members lend a hand to sort and distribute clothing donations to quickly arrive where they are needed most.

Meanwhile, our UNIQLO team in the UK has partnered up with SAMURAI to donate clothes. Under this partnership, UNIQLO is arranging for 10–15 volunteers from the store support center to help sort through donations so they can be distributed easily. Any time volunteered by staff will be paid and treated as working hours.

Since the crisis began, there has been an incredible response from employees all over Europe seeking to get involved in volunteering efforts to support or welcome refugees from Ukraine. Thanks to the team’s response, UNIQLO is working to identify and organize new volunteering activities in Europe. UNIQLO is also looking into ways to provide more significant employment opportunities for Ukrainian refugees across our markets in Europe.
