Carry on in style.
If you don’t want to lose your luggage, don’t check it. Phil Oh is a legendary street style documentarian and is always on patrol for various publications and his blog Street Peeper. When not in New York, he globetrots to fashion weeks and virtually lives out of his suitcase. He showed us how to pack lightly.

TIP 1: MINIMIZE
“I try to bring lightweight layers for autumn and winter rather than a big parka or a bigger, chunkier sweater cause they take up so much room in your suitcase. You can only wear it once but lightweight layers you can mix and match. Plan your outfits in advance, and you can minimize waste and taking up space.”

Soft Touch Crew Neck T-Shirts ($14.90), Washed Striped Crew Neck T-Shirt ($19.90), Extra Fine Merino Crew Neck Sweater ($39.90), Ultra Stretch Skinny Fit Chino Flat Front Pants ($39.90), Color Socks ($2.90), Ultra Light Down Compact V Neck Vest (in pouch) ($39.90), Ultra Light Down Vest ($49.90), Italian Saddle Leather Belt ($29.90)

TIP 2: OPTIONS!
“I always bring two Ultra Light Down vests. They’re lightweight and pocketable so there’s always room for them. You can use it as a layering item and it’s so thin but still so warm. They’re genius and they’re so affordable and I have them in three different colors.”

Ultra Light Down Vest ($49.90), Ultra Light Down Compact V Neck Vest ($39.90)

TIP 3: ROLL WITH IT
“Roll the softer garments like the sweaters, cotton, wool things because those are pliable.”

Extra Fine Merino Crew Neck and V Neck Sweaters ($39.90)

TIP 4: FOLD
“Fold the stiffer shirts, thicker pants, and dress shirts.”

Easy Care Comfort Shirt ($29.90)

TIP 5: STACK
“Put the folded items on top of the rolled ones.”

Easy Care Comfort Shirt ($29.90)

TIP 6: STUFF IT
“I always minimize shoes because those take up so much space. I stuff everything I can into the shoes, like socks and chargers.”

Color Socks ($2.90)

TIP 7: SHOP ON THE GO
“When I’m gone for four weeks at a time during fashion week, I always stop by UNIQLO in London and Paris and stock up on underwear. I probably have about 100 of them. They’re lightweight and easy to dry if I need to hand wash at the hotel.”

Woven Trunks ($5.90)
