STORE OPERATIONS – WEST COAST / DIRECTOR
Importance of Staff Development
UNIQLO has helped me develop professionally by constantly challenging me to think innovatively and providing me with many growth opportunities. Not only have I been able to develop my own career here but also I’ve been able to develop my employees’ careers. The highlight of my work is knowing that I’ve made a positive impact on someone’s life and career by supporting and training them as a leader and mentor. My goal is for UNIQLO to be known both for its amazing customer experience and employee opportunities.
Allocations / Allocation Manager
Opportunities for Career Growth
UNIQLO values its employees. If you have the passion, talent, and drive, you have the opportunity to really build your career here. I joined the company as an Advanced Sales Associate and worked my way up to become a Store Manager. Now, I manage the entire Allocations department. If you look around our company, you see so many people who started as sales associates, supervisors-in-training, or UNIQLO Manager Candidates in our stores. I don’t know many other retailers where employees at the corporate office can say, “I started in the stores”. If you work hard at your dream and are hungry to learn, you can really go places.
Inventory Control Manager
Working for UNIQLO both in the US and in Japan has been an experience I will always value. When I joined the company we only had 3 stores in the US and our brand was just starting to be recognized. Now, with stores across the country and major brand partnerships, I am proud and excited when I see UNIQLO featured in new places. Being able to grow alongside the company has been both rewarding and challenging which has helped me become the business professional I am today. We've overcome many obstacles, updated our operations, and have learned a lot from our customers throughout the years. I believe with UNIQLO's passion and customer focus we have what it takes to continue to grow, improve, and be the #1 retailer in the eyes of our customers.
My Favorite LifeWear Product: W's AIRism soft leggings are my absolute favorite UNIQLO product- the material is soft smooth and has just the right amount of hold. I could live in these... and pretty much do!
Store Operations Support Manager
UNIQLO's business is growing at a rapid pace. While this is challenging, it is also very rewarding as it provides me with the opportunity to grow and constantly learn and try new business tactics. Given the organizational structure, there is quick dissemination of information and direction from the leadership team so the company is aligned on objectives. I am also able to easily work cross-functionally with different members in the stores, headquarters as well as global headquarters.
My Favorite LifeWear Product: I wear our rayon blouses the most; the fabric is soft, breathable, and wrinkle-resistant. I love them because they're easy to dress up or down for any occasion. Our rayon blouses are definitely a wardrobe essential!
Area Manager of San Francisco
I’ve been working for Uniqlo since 2014 and one of the most appealing reasons that brought me to this company was the ability to create, run and drive my own business. I have worked for other companies before but none that have allowed me to develop my own profit management structure, give feedback to HQ for how to improve our company’s business or even the flexibility to create a sales floor layout that’s tailored to our local customer’s needs. Working for Uniqlo has brought many amazing opportunities like travelling to our local headquarters in New York as well as our global HQ in Tokyo. I was able to see firsthand how other department leaders approach business, encourage staff development and satisfy the many customers who enter our stores every day. I’ve learned many skills along the way, but one I wouldn’t have expected was the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with members of different departments. Renovating stores, rezoning floor layouts, creating seasonal buy plans, assessing regional customer service efforts and digitizing the way we work have now become the new normal!
My Favorite LifeWear Product: I love my Uniqlo Sweatshirts ! Although they seem like a simple product – the fit, fabric & overall design is quite appealing to my everyday wardrobe. I can’t seem to have enough colors!
MERCHANDISING / KIDS MERCHANDISE MANAGER
UNIQLO’s strength is its focus on the core of our business – the customer. The customer is why we exist, and the product is why the customer shops with us. By keeping operations simple every day and focusing on delivering the right product, to the right place, at the right time, we are able to make our customers happy. Every decision being grounded in that customer's happiness is UNIQLO's strength. No matter which department you work in, we all share that same common goal, customer satisfaction.
HUMAN RESOURCES / FRMIC MANAGER
UNIQLO has provided me with a global perspective that has enriched both my personal and professional life. Since joining the company five years ago, I have had many opportunities to learn from the business overseas, whether it be from the diverse team of global leaders at UNIQLO USA or from attending sessions in Japan with the founder and CEO of Fast Retailing, Mr. Yanai. I hope to take what I’ve learned and one day become the COO of the Western U.S., bringing UNIQLO’s great value to American customers.
IMD / IMD Layout Planner
It’s hard to put into words how great of a company UNIQLO has been for my growth. In particular, the critical thinking and teamwork skills that I’ve learned and put into practice daily have enabled me to grow in countless ways. I feel more confident not only in my work but also in my daily life. UNIQLO is really a place to build life skills beyond the job. The company has also provided me with once-in-a-lifetime experiences, such as the opportunity to open the Atlantic Terminal store from scratch!
Store Operations - East Coast / Regional Manager
Impacting the Business
I joined UNIQLO because I wanted to work for an international company and have the opportunity to work all over the world. Not only was I able to train in Japan, but also I had the opportunity to travel there for a product development project. For the project, I gave my feedback and opinions on product samples. This was super impactful for me because I knew that my opinion was valued. My feedback was eventually implemented in the final design of a few products, and it was exciting to see those products in real life in the stores.
BUSINESS OPERATIONS SUPPORT / CO-DIRECTOR
Challenging Conventional Wisdom
One of the most exciting aspects of working at UNIQLO is the ability to set and achieve goals that challenge conventional wisdom. A specific example that comes to mind is the Tysons Corner store opening. When we were preparing for the new store opening, we were given a very short deadline of six days, compared to the traditional deadline of 21 days. As the business leader of the unit, I challenged my team to stick to this deadline and come together to achieve our goal. We were able to successfully open the store in six days, a true example of concurrent work between stores and headquarters in NYC to get all of the moving parts to work together.
Manager at 5th Avenue Global Flagship
KEEP LEARNING KEEP GROWING
I have worked in retail for almost 20 years and more than half of that has been with UNIQLO. Before UNIQLO, I worked at two other top global retailers. Even though I learned so many things from them, the skills and knowledge I’ve attained at UNIQLO is un parallel. During the 12 years I have accomplished more than I could have imagined, from traveling to Hong Kong to visiting our factories to spending a summer in Tokyo to immerse myself in the brand. Along with travel, the multiple experiences I’ve had opening stores and moving from city to city. All of this while working with some amazing people along the way. At UNIQLO I’ve been able to constantly learn and open new personal and professional possibilities. This is a place with endless possibilities if you are ready for feedback, have a positive attitude and can produce results!
My Favorite LifeWear Product: My favorite item is an all season item, Ultra Stretch Leggings pants. They are super easy to add to an outfit and they look great on.
UNIQLO is one of the only brands out there that truly caters to all: our clothes are universal, timeless, essential, high-quality, and ultimately beautiful. Through clothing, UNIQLO is on a perpetual mission to better everyone’s lives; and who wouldn’t want to jump on that bandwagon? For someone that intrinsically loves fashion, I personally could not ask for a better brand to work for: one that is socially responsible, global, and most importantly growing. I am thankful and humbled that I have been able to grow my career at UNIQLO because the company proactively fosters internal leadership growth and development.
My Favorite LifeWear Product: Uniqlo’s Ultra Light Down Jacket is one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe because it is practical, easy to travel with and easy to match back to any outfit as a layering piece.
STORE OPERATIONS - MANHATTAN / UNIQLO NY SOHO GENERAL MANAGER
I joined the company as an Associate almost nine years ago. Since then, I’ve learned so many different skills that are necessary to becoming a true business leader. Not only has the company taught me to really care about others and support their growth and development, but also it has taught me the ins and outs of running a business. Before UNIQLO, I didn't know anything about sales, but now, I’m able to analyze numbers, like P&L, and run all aspects of the store’s business as a Store Manager. In the future, I want to become the East Coast Director of Store Operations.
