Simple made better.
Padding that exceeds down.
We took on the challenge of reproducing the warmth of down without the weight to create PUFFTECH, high-performance insulation synthetic fiber. Working hand-in-hand with Toray Industries, UNIQLO spent about 10 years developing PUFFTECH, a fiberfill that mimics the structure of down. This fiberfill contains plenty of air to achieve unprecedented levels of lightness and warmth. This next-generation outerwear meets the needs of a new era.

Air, the secret to warmth.
How do we achieve the lightness and warmth of insulated down? After 10 years of joint development with Toray Industries, we created PUFFTECH—high-performance insulation made of ultra-fine fibers, 1/5th the width of a strand of human hair. Each fiber is hollow and has a spring-like 3D shape, allowing for air to insulate and create warmth.
*The fineness of some fibers, considering hair size as 0.08mm for comparison with polyester fibers.

Moisture-resistant warmth.
Generally, when natural down gets wet, it loses volume and warmth and takes longer to dry. PUFFTECH is resistant to moisture absorption, allowing it to maintain sufficient warmth even in environments with humidity levels of 90% or higher. Thanks to 3D padding, PUFFTECH expands more easily compared to conventional granular padding, allowing it to return to its original volume more quickly, even when wet.

Lotus leaves, the secret to water-repellent technology.
Thanks to Toray’s NANODESIGN™ technology, our PUFFTECH jackets are also water-repellent. To achieve this quality, fibers are bundled and heat-processed to create a state in which the threads contract and coil, similar to a perm. Weaving fabric from these threads creates an irregular surface similar to that of a lotus leaf, which creates a layer of air between water droplets and the fabric, making the droplets roll off more easily. The upper thread that’s used on the outer layer is also water-repellent, providing additional functionality and protection.

Washable kids' clothing for winter.
Lightweight, warm, and machine-washable. Making outerwear for children means development has to have a fundamentally different purpose. The Ball Padding we developed with Toray is lightweight and structured to hold plenty of warm air while also being easy to care for. Play hard, get dirty, and toss it in the washer. We've added many other touches. The fastener is easy to handle while wearing gloves, and we've designed the collar with a chin guard to keep the fastener from touching the chin. There's also a name tag on the backside. We've considered every detail to keep your kids warm and dry.
