It has a unique texture and quality luster. For this linen shirt, we've really highlighted the quality and premium material. Since 100% natural linen fibers are inconsistent in thickness, removing the neps (knots) that form from clumps of fibers during twisting and weaving is essential. Through quality control, we create softer, nicer-looking linen shirts. Under UNIQLO's standards, our workers perform visual inspections and use tweezers to manually handpick neps from each shirt at four points in the manufacturing process, from the fabric stage to the completed product.

Fine linen fabric must be carefully sewn for durability. The effort we put into applying different sewing techniques to various parts, such as folding and sewing the ends of the fabric in the lower sleeves and stitching the placket with three folds, ensures you can wash and wear your shirt repeatedly. You can fully experience the lifecycle of linen that grows softer with every wash and wear.

Responsibility for materials is also a global standard. Our premium linen shirts are made of 100% Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ materials, which guarantees third-party verified traceability from fiber to finished product for flax grown in Western Europe, and highlight the unique expertise of European fiber producers. A vegetable fiber from an agricultural crop generally cultivated without irrigation, with limited use of inputs, and always GMO-free. Masters of FLAX FIBRE™ certified flax is transformed through a mechanical process that generates no waste: from the fibre to the shives and seeds, the entire plant is used and valorised.

The journey of creating UNIQLO’s premium linen shirts begins with spinning high-quality flax from Western Europe into yarn. After impurities are removed from the raw material, the fibers undergo a meticulous combing process, repeated five times, to yield a radiant, beautiful yarn. In the dyeing phase, we craft a unique color recipe for each shirt using a combination of 120 different dyes. The result is a fabric that is not only richly colored but also high-quality and lustrous. Finally, any neps (knots) typical of natural materials are painstakingly removed by hand. This meticulous attention to detail, from raw materials to weaving, ensures that our premium linen shirts exude a pleasing shine.
