Since established in 1806 as a retailer of washi, traditional Japanese handmade paper, it has offered specialty paper from each region of Japan as well as exquisitely designed paper products. The hand-printed patterned papers (chiyogami), money envelopes (kinpu), round fans (uchiwa) and products featuring a painting by Zeshin Shibata, Yumeji Takehisa and other influential painters of the time are timeless and popular to this day. More recently, Haibara has been working on the reprint of the original designs, while preserving the traditional wood-block printing techniques.
