Can your LifeWear truly last a lifetime? At UNIQLO, we believe it can - when you make thoughtful choices about how you wear, care for, repair, and pass on your clothes.
To support you every step of the way, UNIQLO created a simple guide to help decide what to do with each item in your wardrobe, so nothing useful goes to waste. Jump on the journey with us to find out how!

Start with a Wardrobe Assessment
Start by taking a fresh look at your wardrobe. Separate your clothes into two groups: items you regularly wear and love, and items you haven’t worn for more than a year. This step helps clarify what clothing truly fits your current lifestyle, and what may be ready for a new chapter.

If You No Longer Wear it: Donate with Purpose
If a piece no longer suits your style or you don’t feel joy while wearing it, consider passing it on. You can donate UNIQLO items to a RE.UNIQLO box, available in our stores.
Since the launch of the RE.UNIQLO program in 2006, approximately 63.71 million items have been donated worldwide to people in need (as of the end of August 2025). Each item is carefully sorted and distributed across different regions, supporting communities while keeping clothing in circulation.

If You Still Love Wearing it: Care and Keep
If a piece still suits you and makes you happy, the best choice is to keep wearing it longer. Proper and regular care makes a real difference.
・Use a brush or lint remover regularly to keep garments looking neat and fresh.
・Let clothes rest for two or three days between wears to help prevent lint from appearing.
・Wash dark and light clothes separately, turn items inside out before putting them in the washing machine, and always follow the care labels.
・Use a mesh laundry bag to help maintain the original shape of your clothing.
・Don’t forget to take care of your shoes, too, so they stay clean, comfortable, and presentable.

Make it Fit Your Life
Sometimes a garment is still great but just needs a small adjustment. At UNIQLO stores, alteration services are available for bottoms — free of charge with a standard lock stitch, or for a small fee with a blind stitch. If your belt feels too loose or too tight, you can also add extra holes to make it comfortable and ready for everyday wear.
These services are available at UNIQLO stores for UNIQLO items, helping you adapt your clothes to your life. For more details, please check our alterations FAQ here:

If it’s Damaged: Repair or Remake
If an item is torn, worn, or stained but still meaningful to you, it doesn’t have to be the end. Through RE.UNIQLO STUDIO, selected UNIQLO stores around the world offer services to help extend the life of your favorite pieces. From repairing wear-and-tear to adding embroidery and other customizations, these services give your clothes a chance to be worn again in a new way.

When Repair Isn’t Possible: Recycle and Repurpose
Even items that are difficult to repair can still have value. Where possible, clothing donated to us that can’t be worn is reused – turned into patches for future repairs, incorporated into upcycling projects with fashion schools and universities, or repurposed for new products. That’s why we encourage you to drop your UNIQLO clothing, including items that can no longer be worn, to a RE.UNIQLO box.
Recycling clothing into new products is another of UNIQLO’s ongoing projects to bring people, clothing, and the environment closer together. This effort began with our down collection, where down and feathers from used items collected in stores are recycled. Thanks to technology developed in collaboration with Toray Industries, these materials are reused to create new Recycled Down outerwear – helping conserve resources and reduce waste.

Shop Smarter and Keep Things in Order
A longer life for your clothing also starts before you buy. Try creating a shopping list of essential seasonal items, along with a list of things you don’t need, to help avoid impulse purchases. This mindful approach helps prevent overconsumption and keeps your wardrobe intentional and functional.
Small daily habits can also help everything last longer. Spend just 10 minutes a day tidying up by putting clothes and shoes back in place. An organized wardrobe makes it easier to care for what you own and appreciate it to the fullest.

Every choice - to care, adjust, repair, or donate - helps extend the life of clothing and supports a more circular future. The LifeWear for a Lifetime approach isn’t only a guide; it’s an invitation to rethink how we value what we wear and how long it can remain part of our lives.
