Established in Paris in 1999, Épice is a scarf brand launched by two Danish designers Bess Nielsen and Jan Machenhauer, renowned for its use of vibrant colours distinctively Nordic taste. In preparation for this exciting new UT T-shirt collection, the design team sought inspiration from Flora Danica, a comprehensive eighteenth-century catalogue of botanical plants native to Denmark. The catalogue’s realistic illustrations and pictures of wild plants devoid of decorative elements, especially the pristine beauty that radiates through the sincere rendition of the plants as found in nature, fascinated the team and prompted them to select Nordic flowers that bloom in fall and winter to be the motif for the UNIQLO line.
