Recycled Down Jacket 2022

Even the most basic items continue to evolve with the times.
Here’s an A-to-Z list of the classics of today—and of tomorrow.

This drawing was made especially for UNIQLO by French artist Philippe Weisbecker. His sketch depicts the structure of the jacket using simple lines, in a classic yet refreshing style that highlights the idiosyncrasies of the quilting.

A new life

This moss green down jacket takes its cue from quilted liners found in military clothing, but contains the spirit of the future. The insulation is recycled down, while the nylon used for the body is 100% recycled too. Classic clothes made to last using recycled materials are fast becoming the new standard.

Balmacaan Coat

Characterised by its collar, raglan sleeves, and covered placket, the balmacaan coat takes its name from an estate in Scotland. Aiming for maximum comfort, UNIQLO’s take on this classic uses a light and soft material that has a wool-like warmth. This season, we’ve made the length slightly shorter, so that it can be worn with a greater variety of looks.

Chunky knits

There’s nothing like the feel of a chunky knit, but nobody likes being itchy. Finding a happy medium, these new knits use a blend incorporating about 29% recycled polyester. The roomy cardigan has a yarn comparable to mohair that feels smooth against the skin, while the traditional fair isle and mock turtleneck are so fluffy they feel lighter than air.

This essential has been updated with mesh on the back and underneath the straps, along with big side pockets and an interior laptop sleeve.

Extra Fine

With a texture that positively elevates your mood, these extra fine knits are made from Merino wool fibres measuring about 19.5 microns. The yarn has also been specially treated to allow for washing at home. Our extra fine broadcloth shirt is made exclusively from high-quality, extra-long staple cotton, for a natural sheen. Both are smooth to the touch and feel wonderfully comfortable.

Flight Jacket

This is our first flight jacket for women. Available in three colours: refined sage green, relaxed ecru, and black, these jackets are insulated to keep you warm on those harsh winter days. The men’s version includes classic features like a utility pocket on the arm, and two-step ribbing on the cuffs.

Genderless outerwear

This season’s Uniqlo U collection includes outerwear designed for all genders. A classic tailored coat adapts to different outfits, while the olive hooded coat goes splendidly with chinos or a pair of black skinny jeans.

Hovering in the sweet spot between a coat and a jacket and cut from fabric reminiscent of melton wool, this jacket is designed for easy movement.

Hooded Coat

This roomy coat with a detachable hood has gusseted pockets to carry everything you need, and even has separate pockets for handwarmers.

HEATTECH accessories

This plaid scarf, ribbed beanie, and gloves are all made from HEATTECH; a moisture-absorbing, heat-generating material with superb insulating properties. HEATTECH fleece gives this insulated padded scarf a smooth touch, just the thing for keeping your neck warm and cosy.

Using laser technology and nano-bubble washing, we've reduced the amount of water used in the finishing step by as much as 99%,* while simulating a broken-in look. Our straight leg jeans, made with authentic 100% cotton selvedge denim, were developed in partnership with Hiroshima’s renowned Kaihara Denim. The trendy wide and flared leg styles have a classic high-rise fit.

Keep it clean

If you want to wear a piece of clothing for years, proper maintenance is key. For jackets and coats, brush off any dust once you get home and remove wrinkles with a light touch of the steamer, then hang on a wide-shouldered hanger. Tackle unwanted smells by letting clothes air overnight above a steamy bathtub. These little habits will dramatically increase the lifespan of your favourite items.

Layering

The trick to staying comfortable in autumn, as the temperature goes up and down, is layering wisely. For a base layer, choose moisture-wicking, quick-drying AIRism or moisture-absorbing, heat-generating HEATTECH. The ideal midlayer is a cosy fleece. Top it off with a utility parka. Outfits

These chic outfits are great for those late autumn days. Our new men’s items reference workwear classics like coveralls and painter’s trousers. This classic shade of olive has a vintage feel, thanks to the special wash used on the fine-grained cotton fabric. The women’s brushed jersey shirt is light and breezy, while the near-black navy and long silhouette give it a modern look.

New HEATTECH

The latest form of HEATTECH retains the original moisture-absorbing, heat-generating properties and expands the range to include ribbed and waffle knit styles. The men’s waffle crew neck looks great with cargo joggers and a flannel shirt, while the women’s extra warm ribbed turtleneck is seamless for a gentle fit.

Outerwear fleece

By incorporating an ultra-thin 0.008 mm film, this windproof fleece defies the antiquated notion that the wind will blow right through fleece material. Soft and comfortable as ever, it blocks the wind so well that it can be used as a jacket. Our new hooded model has handwarmer pockets, making it a great choice for sports. Available in various styles, from the classic boa fleece to ribbed blouson styles.

Plaid on plaid

Throwing on a flannel shirt is a sign that autumn is here. This season we’re offering classic checks and tonal ombré plaids, so that you can find the perfect one for you. Each has a classic look, but with a modern fit. The waist and arms have just enough room, while the hem is sized for tucking in or not, your choice. Most importantly, these shirts look great with the sleeves rolled up.

Quilted chic

This season, padded jackets join Ultra Light Down in our collection of lightweight quilted outerwear. This women’s jacket with minute diamond quilting (3) has a water-repellent, anti-static design that can be folded away into a tiny pouch. The men’s blouson (4), with ribbing at the neck and cuffs, may have a retro vibe, but it uses efficient HEATTECH padding. We’ve widened the quilting on the Ultra Light Down jacket (2) and the gilet modeled on the right (5), to make them even better outer layers.

Reinventing viscose

Perfect for those crisp and clear autumn days, our viscose blouses have been updated with responsibly-sourced viscose. Keeping the classic sheen and silky soft texture, we’ve sourced the wood pulp that goes into viscose fibres from certified forests, cutting 49%* of the CO2 emitted in the spinning process.

Stripes Forever

There’s something about a striped T-shirt tucked into a pair of faded jeans. It’s a classic look that anybody can aspire to. With its clean horizontal lines, the long sleeve boat neck T-shirt has relaxed dropped shoulders and a boxy silhouette. The thick cotton takes on character with age.

Trucker jacket

This women’s jacket is 100% cotton. Overdyed and prewashed, the supple fabric has an amazing depth of colour and is lightweight enough to throw over a T-shirt. The men’s jacket has a relaxed fit, with dropped shoulders and a shorter cut, while the denim has added stretch for comfort.

Unique clothing warehouse

Did you know that UNIQLO started off with the name “Unique Clothing Warehouse”? The photo above was taken in June 1984 at our very first store in Fukuromachi, Hiroshima. We soon answered the demand for high-quality basics like polo shirts, chinos, and Oxford shirts, which have gone on to become standards, while striving to create modern classics that would stand up to regular use. The branded sweatshirt illustrated above is a rare item that was carefully preserved in the wardrobe of an employee from the time.

Varsity life

The student athletes at Harvard University, featured in this issue, are brimming with vitality. This varsity jacket, a prime example of the influence of sports on fashion, is a perfect choice for autumn and winter. The knitted collar and cuffs and snap button closure are classic details.

These two styles of 100% cotton chinos look better every time you wear them. The authentic regular fit chinos use a strong and supple “West Point” style twill. Meanwhile, the classic tapered chinos from Uniqlo U feature formal pleats, back pocket flaps, and are cut from classic cotton twill.
