Extra Fine Cotton Broadcloth Shirt

Cut from rare ultra-long cotton, with fibres longer and thinner than usual, this shirt has a beautiful sheen and comes in vivid colours. UNIQLO broadcloth shirts only use this ultra-long cotton. There are many patterns with beautiful colours and designs, including plain cloths, stripes, and checks. For each colour dye and pattern, we adjust the yarn thickness to find ways to bring out the beauty in every colour and pattern.

A good shirt starts with good cotton.

Cotton fibre is made by untangling cotton flowers. Extra-long staple cotton has a fibre length of 35 mm or more, and is a rare and high quality cotton that gives a smooth feel and pleasing lustre. At our factory, impurities are carefully removed from bales of cotton, then the fibres are carefully twisted many times while gradually aligning their direction and spun into beautiful yarn.

Symmetrical beauty crafted by human hands.

The fabric for Extra Fine Cotton shirts with checks or stripe patterns is roughly cut, after which skilled craftspersons make adjustments by hand to perfectly align the patterns. After each pattern is properly aligned, it is cut again. This two-step process ensures that the patterns for the collar, placket, sleeves, and cuffs are symmetrical, and that each part is finished beautifully without misalignment. Every detail is meticulous. That’s the secret to making a beautiful shirt.
