Preparing for your baby’s arrival in fall: The guide to choosing Innerwear and other items
As the season changes, sometimes it may still be warm and at times it can be chilly. Because of this unpredicted weather, it is best to use layering. It’s standard practice to regulate temperature by layering thin items. A baby’s ability to regulate body temperature is still developing, so add or remove layers of innerwear and other items to maintain temperatures that are comfortable for your baby.
The short innerwear is worn directly over skin. It’s for wicking perspiration. The combination innerwear covers up to the legs. This is perfect for babies to keep a warm body temperature. Dress your baby in these two layers immediately after birth. Once your baby starts to energetically kick, you’ll want to replace the short innerwear with a bodysuit. There’s no need to worry about the opening because it fastens with buttons at the baby’s leg area. You’ll want to ready about five to six of each for perspiration and regulating body temperature because perspiration and spit-ups will require two to three changes a day.

Start with the short innerwear for perspiration. Layer over a combination innerwear, which provides warmth. Finally, layer over a one-piece outfit, which is an outer layer. Adjust the number of layers in accordance to the day’s temperature. On some days, the innerwear alone should suffice. If your baby’s back is perspiring, then it’s a sign he or she is too hot. On chilly days, check frequently, and remove or add layers when required. For example, layer a vest over top if necessary
At first, move up in size about every three months. Avoid preparing overly large innerwear even if you think your baby will quickly grow into it. Innerwear that’s too loose doesn’t wick perspiration. It also hinders your baby’s movement. Choose the right size for your baby and move up in size in conjunction with your baby’s growth.
Short innerwear
For the first two months or so, babies will have loose stools up to 10 times a day. You’ll be changing diapers each time, so short innerwear comes in particularly handy. It stays out of the way for easier changing. Choose a fabric that’s very stretchy and gentle on skin.

Combination innerwear
Combination innerwear is for providing warmth. It’s worn over short innerwear and extends to cover feet. It has a key advantage. Buttons at the crotch ensure tummies remain covered. Innerwear alone should suffice when at home, so consider readying a patterned item, like the one on the picture. Your baby will look more adorable than he or she already is!

Bodysuit
Babies begin energetically kicking around a month after birth, so consider a bodysuit in place of the short innerwear. Long-sleeve bodysuits can also serve as one-piece outfits, so you’ll want to prepare one with adorable colors and patterns. If you’re worried your baby’s legs are cold, then consider layering bloomers to cover the legs. Coordinating tights and leg warmers produce adorable looks, too.

One-piece outfit
This item fastens at the front, so even dressing babies who can’t support their heads yet is easy. The fabric stretches well, so arms slide through the sleeves easier. The crotch conveniently opens wide to simplify diaper changes. The snap buttons are differently colored to prevent incorrect fastening and reduce the effort that accompanies clothing changes.

Until about a month after birth, a baby’s ability to regulate body temperature is still developing, so the rule of thumb is “one layer more than an adult wears.” If two layers suffice for an adult, then layer three items for a baby: two innerwear items plus a one-piece outfit. After a month and your baby can energetically move his or her arms and legs, the same number of layers that an adult wears should suffice. Innerwear comes in different fabrics, so choose the one that’s appropriate for the time of year. You’ll want to choose a milled cotton fabric too keep your baby warm. It’s easy to move in, and it retains heat well.
You probably won’t be taking your baby outside until the one-month checkup, so innerwear alone should suffice while you and your baby remain indoors. Nonetheless, you’ll want to prepare several one-piece outfits because some days may be chilly. You’ll be glad you had a one-piece outfit when guests arrive as well. Once you and your baby are deemed healthy at the one-month checkup, it’s time to start enjoying the outside air. Use the one-piece outfit, bibs, hats, and more to create stylish looks, too!
UNIQLO’s newborn innerwear, bodysuits, one-piece outfits, and bibs are available with the same patterns. Coordinates that are built around the same pattern look fine, but why not have a little fun by combining different patterns. Or add a solid-color to the mix. Bibs require frequent replacement throughout the day, so you’ll thank yourself when you prepare several sets of colors and patterns that are easy to coordinate.

Babies require baths, and it is natural that they perspire heavily. They naturally require a change of clothes after baths as well as after they perspire. Your baby may make a mess after feeding, so several changes a day should be expected. The articles may not dry as quickly after laundering due to cooler temperatures, so you’ll want to prepare five to six sets. This way you’ll have a couple of spares when the others are in the wash.
