Styling Tips for Sophisticated Monochrome Looks: Navy
Monochrome coordinates look undeniably elegant. If you want to try them but think they’re difficult to pull off, then we’ve got you covered. We’ve invited professionals to share tips and techniques that you can’t go wrong with. The topic of the second in the series is navy, a color that everyone has and that is easy to craft monochrome coordinates with!
1. Greater the contrast in the fabric, greater the stylishness!
Unlike other colors, navy doesn’t lend itself to light and dark contrasts. So, to create contrast, concentrate on the fabrics and their textures. For example, this pairing of a wool-blend knitted dress and flowing pleated skirt works well because their fabrics are so different. The fine pleats additionally foster personality to produce a monochrome arrangement that has depth.

2. Use patterned items to produce a dramatic flourish style
When coordinating the top and bottom in navy, you’ll definitely want to add patterned items to prevent the look from appearing flat. A much more gorgeous look is yours when you slip a striped shirt under a sweater and let it peek out from under the sleeve openings and hem. A check stole, which is in style this season, is perfect for adding pizzazz. Because the foundation is navy, the incorporation of a different pattern isn’t jarring, and a classy overall look results.

3. Effective with even small amounts! Mix in white when wearing navy outerwear
When putting together monochrome navy looks, you’ll want to consider adding white items as much as you would patterned items. White is fantastic at preventing voluminous outerwear items, like down coats, from appearing plain when they’re navy! Just slipping a white parka between the coat and sweater instantly completes a look with plenty of contrast. The amount is slight but extremely effective, so definitely give it a try!

4. Sandwich the look with white to produce a lighter and breezier tone!
White is indispensable for navy monochrome looks. This effective technique uses white to sandwich the look from above and below. Let a white tee show through the neck opening and wear white shoes. This technique does more than balance out navy’s heavy feel and produce a lighter overall tone. It fosters the clean, respectable look that grownups should strive for. I recommend a stunning item, like this gray and navy double-face coat, because it will bring a dramatic flourish to the look.
