Recycled Down Jacket 2022

Even the most basic items continue to evolve with the times.
Here’s an A-to-Z list of the classics of today—and of tomorrow.

This drawing was made especially for UNIQLO by French artist Philippe Weisbecker. His sketch depicts the structure of the jacket using simple lines, in a classic yet refreshing style that highlights the idiosyncrasies of the quilting.

A New Life

This mossy green down jacket takes a cue from quilted liners found in military clothing, but it contains the spirit of the future: the insulation is recycled down, while the nylon used for the body is 100% recycled too. Classic clothes made to last using recycled materials are fast becoming the new standard.

Balmacaan Coat

Characterized by a soutien collar, raglan sleeves, and a covered placket, the balmacaan coat takes its name from a place in Scotland. Aiming for comfort, UNIQLO’s take on this classic uses a light and soft material that has a woollike warmth. This season, we’ve made the length slightly shorter, so that it can be worn not only with a dressier ensemble, but casually as well, like with sweats.

Chunky Sweaters

There’s nothing like the feel of a chunky sweater, but nobody likes being itchy. Finding a happy medium, these new low gauge sweaters use a blend incorporating about 29% recycled polyester. The roomy cardigan has a yarn comparable to mohair that feels smooth against the skin, while the traditional fair isle and mock turtleneck are so fluffy they feel lighter than air.

Adjust the roll of the top flap to rearrange your stuff. A zipper in the back provides quick access to the main compartment. You’ll find a laptop sleeve inside.

No sweat—all our bags are made from rugged water-resistant nylon. Can be used as a laptop case, shoulder bag, or backpack. The super low-profile helps you to navigate crowded trains and buses.

Converts into a tote or backpack. Closed off by a big zipper, the bottom pocket of this bag has a waterproof finish, for storing wet umbrellas or shoes.

This essential has been updated with mesh on the back and underneath the straps, along with big side pockets and an interior laptop sleeve.

Extra Fine Series

With a texture that positively elevates your mood, these extra fine knits are made using extremely thin merino wool measuring about 19.5 microns, a UNIQLO standard, but the yarn has been specially treated to allow for washing at home. The extra fine broadcloth shirt is made exclusively from high-quality extra-long staple cotton, for a full-bodied garment with a natural sheen. Both are smooth to the touch and feel so comfortable you’ll nearly float away.

Flight Jacket

The MA-1 blouson, modeled on the legend, is our first flight jacket for women. Available in three colors-refined sage green, relaxed ecru, and, black-these jackets are insulated to keep you warm on those harsh winter days. The men’s version includes classic features like a utility pocket on the arm and two-step ribbing on the cuffs.

Genderless
Outerwear

This season’s Uniqlo U collection includes a lineup of genderless outerwear suitable for men and women alike. Designed to fall on the shorter side, this classic tailored coat adapts to different outfits, looking more like a jacket on men and like a short coat on women. The olive hooded coat goes splendidly with chinos, but it also works with a black pair of skinny jeans.

Hovers in a sweet spot between coat and jacket. With a fine-grained fabric reminiscent of melton wool, this jacket conforms to your natural range of motion.

Women Hooded Coat

A roomy hooded coat with generous arms. The gusseted pockets carry everything you need and include separate pockets just for handwarmers. The hood is detachable.

This plaid scarf, rib beanie, and gloves are all made from HEATTECH, a moisture-absorbing, heat-generating material with superb insulating properties. HEATTECH fleece gives this insulated padded scarf a smooth touch, just the thing for keeping your neck warm and cozy.

Our straight-legged jeans, made with authentic 100% cotton selvedge denim, were developed in partnership with Hiroshima’s renowned Kaihara Denim. The trendy wide and flared leg styles have a classic high-rise fit.

Keep It Clean

If you want to wear a piece of clothing for years, proper maintenance is key. For jackets and coats, brush off any dust once you get home and remove wrinkles with a light touch of the steamer, then hang on a wide-shouldered hanger. Tackle unwanted smells by letting clothes air overnight above a steamy bathtub. These little habits will dramatically increase the lifespan of your favorite items.

Layering

The trick to staying comfortable in fall, as the temperature goes up and down, is layering wisely. These chic outfits are great for those late autumn days. Our new men’s items reference workwear classics like coveralls and painter’s pants. This classy shade of olive has a vintage feel, thanks to the special wash used on the fine-grained cotton fabric. The women’s brushed jersey shirt is light and breezy, while the near-black navy color and tall silhouette give it a modern look.

The latest HEATTECH has arrived on the scene with style. While keeping the standard moisture-absorbing, heat-generating properties and warmth, this season’s items include rib and waffle knits. The men’s waffle crew neck looks great with military pants and a flannel, or on its own as a top. The women’s extra warm ribbed turtleneck is seamless for a gentle fit. The fabric is incredibly soft and the neck has a slim profile.

Outer Fleece

By incorporating an ultra-thin 0.008 mm film, this windproof fleece defies the antiquated notion that the wind will blow right through fleece material. Soft and comfortable as ever, it blocks the wind so well that it can be used as a jacket. Our new hooded model has handwarmer pockets, making it a great choice for sports. Available in various styles, from the classic boa fleece to ribbed blouson.

Plaids

Tossing on a flannel is a way of saying “Fall is here.” This season we’re offering a rich selection of authentic patterns, from checkered styles to tonal ombre plaids, so that you can find the perfect one for you. Each has a classic look, but with a modern fit. The waist and arms have just enough room, while the hem is sized for tucking in or not, your choice. Looks great with the sleeves rolled up.

Quilted Chic

This season, padded jackets join Ultra Light Down in our lineup of lightweight quilted outerwear. The women’s jacket with minute diamond quilting (3) has a water-repellant, anti-static, pocketable design. The men’s blouson (4), with ribbing at the neck and cuffs, may come across as retro, but it uses efficient HEATTECH padding. We’ve widened the quilting on the ULD jacket (2) and the vest modeled on the right (5), to make them even better outer layers.

Reinvented

Perfect for those crisp and clear autumn days, our rayon blouses have been updated with “responsible rayon.” Keeping the classic gorgeous sheen and silky soft texture, we’ve sourced the wood pulp that goes into the fibers from forests certified for Forest Certification, cutting 49%* of the CO2 emitted in the spinning process.

There’s something about a Basque shirt tucked into a pair of faded jeans. It’s a basic look that anybody can aspire to. With its clean horizontal lines, the long sleeve boatneck T-shirt has authentic details like relaxed drop shoulders and a boxy silhouette. The substantial cotton takes on character with age, for a shirt with a story all its own.

Who doesn’t want a lightweight trucker jacket? The women’s jacket is 100% cotton. Overdyed and prewashed, the supple fabric has an amazing depth of color. The fact that it’s lightweight means you can toss it on over a jersey top. The men’s jacket has classic features like a relaxed fit, with drop shoulders and a shorter cut, while the denim has just the right amount of stretchiness for comfort.

Unique Clothing

Did you know that UNIQLO started off with the name “Unique Clothing Warehouse”?　The photo above was taken in June 1984 at our very first store in Fukuromachi, Hiroshima. We soon answered the demand for high-quality basics like polo shirts, chinos, and Oxford shirts, releasing a series of authentic goods that have gone on to become standards while striving to create modern classics that would stand up to regular use. Funny story: the branded sweatshirt illustrated above is a rare item once given out as a bonus that was carefully preserved in the wardrobe of an employee who was with the company in those days.

Varsity Life

A healthy, vigorous college lifestyle represents an ideal. The student athletes at Harvard University, featured on p.56, are brimming with this sort of vitality. This stadium jacket, a prime example of the influence of sports on fashion, is a perfect choice for fall and winter. The knit collar and cuffs and snap button closure are classic details, while the sleeves make use of innovative PU leather for a lighter fit.

Sizes are all about options. Our Japanese stores carry sizes S through XL, but our ecommerce website stocks men’s XS through 4XL and women’s up to 3XL. If you want to wear a pair of skinny jeans with a 3XL men’s hoodie, we say go for it. If you can dream it, you can make it part of your own unique style, whether you prefer a tailored fit or keeping things loose.

These two styles of 100% cotton chinos look better every time you wear them. The authentic regular fit chinos use a strong and supple “West Point” style twill. Meanwhile, the classic tapered chinos from Uniqlo U feature formal pleats and an expressive cotton twill, with flaps on the back pockets providing additional accents.

Zeitgeist of Tomorrow

Tweed represents the pinnacle of classic. This wool blended herringbone jacket has the signature hefty appearance of tweed, but in fact it’s incredibly soft and light.
