Dry Lightweight Jacket

The Blue-Winged Butterfly

One weekend morning, we all headed for the Bronx Zoo.

I had on my usual pair of denims, a white shirt, and a jacket that was light as a cardigan. The early summer in NY had that wonderfully comfortable warmth in the air.

The Bronx Zoo is the fourth largest zoo in the world. It is also one of the few places where rare species of butterflies are kept in their dedicated Butterfly Garden.

I remember Asha once told me that the vision of those butterflies gracefully and freely dancing through the skies is the source of her creative inspiration.

“So relaxed and elegant, I think it’s wonderful if you can move through life like those butterflies. I want to be a woman who keeps a butterfly-like composure.”

Then, a blue-winged butterfly began to dance in front of our little girl, Nico, as though to be egging her to follow.

Nico followed this graceful guide toward this direction which seem to lead to a pond.

“Nico, don’t go over there, it’s dangerous,” I said.
But Asha chimed in with, “She’s fine, let’s follow where Nico wants to go.”

The blue-winged guide continued to fly in front of Nico as though to be guiding her through the Garden.

“You’re right, ok.”

Asha has always had this natural way of accepting things as they happened, trusting her instincts. It’s not to say that her instincts always served her well. But when things went south, she never took it as a failure but an opportunity to learn. It’s easy to reject and deny. She always chose to accept whatever that transpired in her life as it did.

This is something that was difficult for me to do and I really love and respect this side of Asha.

“The Chronicles of Narnia” is the book she always kept by her side. It was one which her mom read to her when she was little. She made it a point to offer the same experience to her own daughter, Nico.

"In the book, there is a story titled, 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.' When the four brothers reached Narnia, there is a scene where a bird appears in front of the four brothers and begins to guide them on a path. The bunch instinctively follows the butterfly except for Edmund who refuses to follow the bird, giving his own logic. But at the end, they all follow the bird and end up having these wonderful encounters and experience.”

I was tracing back this story Asha told me one time while I watched Nico follow our blue-winged guide.

Soon, we came to a bit of a clearing in the Garden and the butterfly decided to rest on the shoulders of this lady that was sitting on the bench.

“The butterfly has stopped here!,” Nico said with a smile.

This dry lightweight jacket is light but has the sharp look. Made with a comfortable&light stretch material, with a dry function for that quick drying of sweat and moisture so you can stay comfortable throughout the day, putting it directly over a t-shirt or a short-sleeve shirt.

Enjoy the all-new design and fit this season. We’ve redesigned the silhouette from a tailored look to a more casual style. Be sure to check out the pocket shape and double-stitching which have all been inspired from the details of a work jacket.

The Miraculous Reunion

A summer breeze was gently passing through between my jacket and my shirt.

“Love that navy jacket. Guess it really is your favorite, you wear it all the time,” said Asha as we walked together.

The small passage that the butterfly had taken us through the Butterfly Garden at the Bronx Zoo was a wonderfully utopian place.

The blue butterfly flew in a way to guide us through the Garden and came to rest on the shoulder of this lady sitting on a bench.

Nico kept her stare on the butterfly to which the woman realized and turned around and said hello.

“Hello. You have a butterfly on your shoulder,” said Nico. “Oh, what a lovely butterfly this is,” said the lady. At that moment, the butterfly effortlessly lifted itself and flew away.

When we approached Nico, the lady said, “Hello there, a lovely day today.” She looked to be in her 50s with a classy white blouse, long skirt, and a vivid blue scarf around her neck.

“Hold on, aren’t you from the plane? How wonderful that we meet again like this!,” she said looking at Asha.

“What a coincidence! I’m so happy to see you again,” said Asha, surprised.

The two hugged each other, overjoyed to see each other once again.

“You know, I wanted to run into you once again but since I didn’t get your details, I had given up. So, this to me is such a treat. I’d love to hear more of what’s been happening with you. I was hoping we can do something together.”

Her name was Hayley. She is based in Seattle and works in fashion. Apparently, she sat next to Asha on the flight from Paris to New York where she was visiting for work.

“I was thinking about you, too, Hayley. This is such a miracle that we are seeing each other like this. I am truly overwhelmed. We just followed this little blue butterfly and wandered this way and there you are, Hayley, sitting on the bench. So that blue butterfly knew to guide us here to you.”

“You know, I couldn’t get that dream you talked about, your future, as you stared out the window on the plane.”

Hayley held Asha’s hand and said, “You really saved me…”

As we turned our gaze upwards, we once again saw our blue-winged friend floating high in the sky. That was when I noticed that the blue color of its wings was the same blue as my jacket.

The Almighty Top Layer

Not to toot our own horn but you’ll love the impeccable balance in the silhouette being relaxed but retaining that classy quality of a proper jacket, a result of oh so many fittings. Go for a classy casual look with a relaxed pair of denims or go sharp with a same colored pair of trousers or even shorts for the summer.

Let the jacket do the magic in place of your cardigans and shirts. For going out on a weekend to a look on your trips, this LifeWear will take your styling up a few notches for sure.

What is “LifeWear story 100?”

At UNIQLO,
there exist these lines of clothes
which has remained for many years,
trend-neutral
yet never dated.
Out of the line-ups,
they are the unsung presence,
sitting quietly behind in TV ads.

Yet, they are the culmination
of the years of passion and devotion,
where UNIQLO sought to pursue
more comfort,
more durability, and
more quality.

They give shape and gravitas
to what and who UNIQLO is,
and what UNIQLO continues
to nurture with great care.

To go beyond yesterday,
to reach higher tomorrow.

When you take it in your hands,
when you try it on,
it softly speaks to you,
almost like a friend.

What is a rich quality
lifestyle?
How is such a quality day spent?
What does happiness mean to you…

And you will find yourself
surprised to discover that such
piece of clothing has existed.

What is the UNIQLO principle?
Why do we call clothing LifeWear?
What kind of clothes constitute
LifeWear?

Here, we go deep into
the root of LifeWear,
to know
and to tell.
And I hope to write
stories that revolve
around LifeWear and myself.

LifeWear story 100 will be
a story about a journey with me and LifeWear.
