You can enjoy your clothes longer and benefit our Earth by always taking good care of them. Here are some tips that make garment maintenance easy.
#1 Sustainable things you can do to
make your cotton shirts last longer
Because we want you to enjoy your favorite clothes for longer.
Here are some ideas on how to solve different problems so you can wear your cotton shirts for years to come.
My shirts get creased in the wash so I don’t feel like wearing them.
Have you ever felt you didn’t want to wear your cotton shirts anymore after they get creased in the first wash? We have some tips on how to prevent creases during washing.
Reduce spin time
The regular spin cycle on a washing machine is too long for shirts and that’s why they get so creased. Set your spin cycle to roughly one minute.
Stretch out any seams before drying
Sewn parts of a shirt such as sleeves and buttons tend to shrink in the wash. After the wash cycle is complete, run your hands firmly down any sewn parts in the direction of the seam while the shirt is still damp prior to drying-by machine or hanging.
Ironing shirts is hard work
We all want to wear crisp, smooth cotton shirts, but have you ever felt ironing shirts is time-consuming and tedious? If you know the trick, Here are some tips so that you can reduce ironing time and save electricity.
Shake out your shirt to reduce ironing time
Before placing your shirt on the ironing board, shake and smooth it firmly from top to bottom to remove any large creases and reduce ironing time.
Steam forward, slide back
When moving your iron forward and back, release steam on the forward movement to soften the fibers, and turn off the steam on the way back for a firm press, and an efficient, crisp finish.
Reducing ironing time by one minute can save 20Wh of electricity*. You try to reduce environmental impact when using your cotton shirts. So UNIQLO takes extra care to reduce environmental impact in the manufacturing process.
*The amount of electricity used will differ depending on the product, the environment it is used in, and the conditions of use.
Enjoy wearing your favorite clothes for longer. Recycle clothes when you no longer need them. That is UNIQLO’s vision of ideal sustainability. Please enjoy wearing our thoughtfully made cotton shirts for a long time. In the process, together we can help to use precious resources more efficiently and reduce waste.
