UNIQLO came up with the term LifeWear in 2013. The word refers to everyday clothes designed to improve life for everyone. Standard goods, as beautiful as they are useful. Affordable, high-quality garments with the power to turn a day around.
But in concrete terms, what kind of clothing is this? What kinds of ideas prompt its creation? LifeWear magazine is our attempt to offer answers to these questions.
This inaugural issue is organized around the theme “New Form Follows Function,“ the design concept behind our 2019 Fall & Winter collection. At first, this phrase may sound a little esoteric, but we’ll approach it from a variety of angles, through a rich mix of fashion stories and interviews. Our hope is that by flipping through these pages, you’ll get a sense of what LifeWear is all about.
What is LifeWear?
LifeWear is clothing designed to make everyone’s life better.
It is simple, high-quality, everyday clothing with a practical sense of beauty—
ingenious in detail, thought through with life’s needs in mind, and always evolving.

Inspired by this issue’s theme, “New Form Follows Function,“ the editorial team selected illustrations for the cover, table of contents, and colophon from the work of Copenhagen-based artist Adrian Johnson, who made minor updates to their selections.
