Jean-Michel Basquiat was a painter from New York who lived from the 1960s to the 1980s. Introducing a unique UT collection that depicts the popular characters and relationships imagined by Basquiat, who was heavily influenced by American comics and animation.
The characters Basquiat drew coexist with familiar motifs.

Jean-Michel Basquiat was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1960, and his name gradually spread starting in the late ‘70s. In the 1980s he attracted a great deal of international attention as a new expressionist painter, and is now considered to be "one of the most important artists of the 20th century."
With historical events and social conditions as his subjects, his works intermingle text and images such as poems and drawings while crossing over between the concrete and the abstract, and trade at extremely high prices even now at contemporary art auctions. Whether through media or exhibitions, a great many people have brushed up against the name "Basquiat" or his works.

Basquiat left more than 3000 drawings and 1000 paintings after an active period of just 10 years. He is known to have been greatly influenced by his love of pop culture, especially music, comics and animation.

In the UT collection "Jean-Michel Basquiat x Warner Bros.", characters and motifs of DC and Warner Brothers are extracted from a total of five paintings done by Basquiat in the 1980s. Basquiat's hand-drawn motifs including Batman, Joker, Superman, The Flash, and Bags Bunny co-exist with official DC and Warner Brothers designs, resulting in a totally unique style.

The UT collection "Jean-Michel Basquiat x Warner Bros." will go on sale at select UNIQLO stores. Why not stop by and try on a design that catches your eye?
