Christophe Lemaire, artistic director of Uniqlo U, shares his thoughts on the Uniqlo U Crew Neck T-shirt for men in his Paris studio. Mr. Lemaire's aesthetic is based on the idea of what a universal T-shirt should be, and incorporates a sophisticated aesthetic into something that is worn on a daily basis. Fabric, texture, and comfort, along with sophisticated colours - are considered, even in products that look simple at first glance.

The interlock-knit jersey fabric has a clean, soft finish. He also tells us about the many tests he went through with the production factory to create this shape. You can see that the same crew-neck T-shirt is made with completely different attention to detail for men's and women's versions.
Carefully selected colours for the year.
We are very particular about colour. To create a single colour, we test a minimum of four prototypes and select the one with the most beautiful tone. After numerous trials of a wide range of colours, we take our time to pare down the selection until we find the tones that work the best with this fabric and silhouette. The result? A beautiful palette of ten shades.
