This summer, UNIQLO held a press preview event for the Autumn/Winter 2024 season at its Roppongi headquarters in Tokyo to showcase the latest products to media and staff.
On display for this season were clothes that look classic but are lighter and more comfortable, with functions and materials that continue to evolve. This season's theme, “Timeless Tones,” was inspired by European cities and suggests coordinating tonal colours and combining different textures. At the venue, modelled after the urban landscapes of Edinburgh, Scotland and Stockholm, Sweden—where the idea for the season theme originated—a space was created where visitors could experience the brand’s concept for Autumn/Winter 2024.
Many media representatives visited the exhibition to catch an early look at the new products. Below are some highlights that received a lot of positive feedback from visitors. Japanese stars Haruka Ayase and Kohei Matsushita, and members of popular K-pop idol group TREASURE also came to the preview, tried on the items and shared their thoughts about what they wore.
Collection highlights
1. Next-generation lightweight outerwear PUFFERTECH
Many people were surprised by the softness and lightness of our PUFFERTECH collection. PUFFERTECH is our next-generation lightweight outerwear with functional padding created from new fibre technology. The centre of the fibres is hollow, so they hold more air, which increases warmth and elasticity, making it fluffy and very soft. Unlike down, there is less risk of filling shedding, and the items can be hand-washed. This season, the collection includes a parka and jacket for women and men. Lightweight, warm, and not bulky, these jackets serve as fashionable light outerwear.
Visitor Comments:
”The coat is so light, that I haven't worn it, the colour is also cute! And I really appreciate that I can wash it at home.”
“It is much lighter than I expected! The quilting is cute and it's not bulky, so I'm sure I'll be wearing it frequently this winter.”
2. Cashmere knits carefully finished by skilled eyes and hands
Cashmere knits were very popular at the preview. To make the most of the high-quality materials, everything from yarn spinning to sewing is carefully finished by skilled eyes and hands. Yarns from cashmere goats are very supple and have a beautiful lustre. The yarn is dyed with careful attention to the condition of the raw wool to ensure that the colour is uniform and beautiful no matter where in the world it is handled. The most important point is that the knits can be hand-washed at home. The key to achieving this is a special treatment applied at the molecular level. This season's collection includes three shapes: crew neck, V neck, and turtleneck.
Visitor Comments:
”The colours are so beautiful that you will get excited just by looking at them. The feel is great, too, so you should try them for yourself.”
”There are many colour variations, and the affordable price allows you to try colours you normally wouldn't choose! I think UNIQLO is the only company that can offer such a great price for cashmere.”
LifeWear Special Ambassador, Haruka Ayase
LifeWear Special Ambassador Haruka Ayase paid a visit to the preview wearing a cashmere knit and commented, “As I like basic colours, today I’m wearing a grey colour cashmere sweater.” She made her way around the venue, which reproduced the look of a European cityscape, picking up UNIQLO items she was interested in along the way. She was surprised by the Stockholm-inspired area, which replicated the look of snowy mountains. Sharing her thoughts about the exhibition she said, “The UNIQLO Autumn/Winter 2024 collection will surely make the coming season more fun!”
Actor Kohei Matsushita
Kohei Matsushita also paid a visit to the UNIQLO preview wearing one of the new items, a Milano Ribbed Cardigan in brown, the trending colour for the season. He commented that the cardigan he wore has just the right amount of tension and is very comfortable to wear. Matsushita took a copy of LifeWear Magazine Issue 11, which came out on August 23rd, and remarked “As the exhibition was linked with the magazine content, I could really experience the scenes that the magazine explored. Moreover, the magazine itself is very substantial and well worth reading, it’s unbelievable that this magazine is free of charge!”
Members of K-pop group TREASURE
Four members of popular K-pop group TREASURE: JUNKYU, YOON JAE HYUK, DOYOUNG, and SO JUNG HWAN, also paid a visit to the preview in Tokyo. The group were looking forward to checking out UNIQLO items for the coming season. As they made their way around the venue, which had different sections set up to highlight their respective concepts, the idols tried on different items and attempted to match each other's outfits. The four members created four different looks, each showing their own charm and character. Here are the products the members tried on:
