Discover what makes Supima® cotton so special
What is Supima® cotton?
"Pima" cotton was born in the United States in 1911. This very special variety of cotton boasts fibres that are 35% longer than those of the average traditional cotton flower. Quickly marketed across the country, and then the rest of the world, the idea of a registered trademark "Supima" was born in 1954. The idea? To label the very best of American Pima cotton, as a guarantee of quality to its buyers. This name would go on to travel the world to become synonymous with a cotton of incomparable quality. Today, only 1% of Pima cotton is labelled "Supima". The name, a blending of the words “Superior” and “Pima", is a true reflection of its high standards.
Why choose Supima® cotton?
- Superior breathability
Supima® cotton has some of the longest cotton fibres, which result in a stronger yarn that can be made much finer than other cottons. A finer weave makes the resulting cloth lightweight and breathable, creating the perfect option for staying cool all day long.
- Increased strength
Supima® is twice as strong as regular cotton - making for extraordinarily resilient garments. The longer fibres resist pulling, breaking, and tearing - resulting in products that are incredibly resilient and keep their form for longer.
- Enhanced colour retention
Supima® fibres absorb dye with a deep, long-lasting penetration. The result is a product that retains colour better than regular cotton. Supima® products keep their brilliance wash after wash, giving you many years of use.
- Supreme softness
Supima® is inherently softer and more luxurious due to its extra-long staple fibres. The length of the fibre produces smoother, cleaner yarns that result in a softer fabric that resists pilling. Your products will feel sumptuously soft and only get softer with wear.
- Natural sustainability
Finally, Supima® cotton is sustainable by nature. The farmers who grow it use some of the most technologically advanced agricultural processes available, reducing water use and conserving soil nutrients. Using GPS and satellite technology, farmers can quickly identify pest issues and provide targeted treatment just to the areas of the field that need it.
How to care for Supima® cotton
The long fibres and superior strength of Supima® cotton mean it is much less likely to shrink than other cotton types. Supima® cotton is machine washable between 30°C and 40°C. You only need to stretch it a little after washing so that it regains its shape. For best results, dry your Supima® cotton clothes by laying them flat on a towel. If you dry them this way, there is no need to iron them. Make sure to read the label and follow the care instructions closely for each Supima® product.
