Product stories
Linen from a cool climate.
The linen for these shirts is made from flax stem grown in the cool climate and abundant water of Western Europe. Alongside a smooth texture and quality lustre, linen is excellent at absorbing moisture and so dries sweat fast, keeping you comfortable during summer.
Four stages of fabric quality control.
Since 100% natural linen has fibres with inconsistent thickness, it is essential to remove the 'nep' that forms from clumps of fibres when twisting yarn and weaving fabric. To create softer linen shirts with a smoother appearance, we carry out Through quality control. Under UNIQLO's quality control standards, our workers perform visual inspections and use tweezers to manually hand-pick nep from each shirt at four different stages in the manufacturing process, from the fabric stage to the completed product.
Fine linen deserves fine sewing.
Our linen shirts are carefully sewn for durability so you can wash and wear your shirt over and over again and fully enjoy the way linen grows softer over time.

Product stories
A zero-waste fibre.
Our linen shirts are made of 100% European Flax™, which guarantees third-party verified traceability through the entire value chain for flax fibre grown in Western Europe. Flax doesn't typically require irrigation, apart from under very exceptional circumstances, or GMOs, and European Flax™ certified flax is made into linen through a mechanical process that generates no waste: from the fibre to the shives and seeds, the entire plant is used.
Enhancing colour and lustre.
Making the fabric for UNIQLO’s linen shirts begins with spinning high-quality flax grown in Western Europe into yarn. After removing impurities from the raw material, the fibres are combed and straightened. This combing process is repeated five times to produce a radiant, beautiful yarn. In the subsequent dyeing process, a unique recipe for each colour is prepared from a combination of 120 dyes. The finished material is a beautifully coloured, high-quality, and lustrous fabric. Finally, the neps (knots) typical in natural materials are carefully removed by hand. This careful attention to detail, from raw materials to weaving, gives these linen shirts a pleasing shine.
