LifeWear for a Lifetime: Keeping Clothing in Circularity

Apr 21, 2026 SUSTAINABILITY

Can LifeWear Really Last a Lifetime?

Yes, LifeWear can last a lifetime when you make thoughtful choices about how you wear, care for, repair, and pass on your clothing. At UNIQLO, we believe that extending the life of clothing is key to reducing waste and supporting a more circular future.

To help make this easier, UNIQLO created a simple decision-making guide so you can choose the best next step for every item in your wardrobe ensuring nothing useful goes to waste.

Start With a Wardrobe Assessment

The first step toward circularity is understanding what you already own.

How to assess your wardrobe:
・ Separate items you wear and love regularly
・ Set aside items you haven’t worn in over a year

This helps clarify which clothes still fit your lifestyle and which may be ready for a new chapter.

If You No Longer Wear It: Donate with Purpose

If an item no longer suits your style or you simply don’t enjoy wearing it, consider passing it on.
You can donate UNIQLO clothing at a RE.UNIQLO collection box, available in all UNIQLO stores.

Since the launch of the RE.UNIQLO program in 2006, approximately 63.71 million items have been donated worldwide to people in need (as of the end of August 2025). Donated items are carefully sorted and distributed across regions to support communities while keeping clothing in circulation.

If You Still Love Wearing It: Care and Keep

If a piece still fits and makes you feel good, wearing it longer is the best choice. Proper care helps extend the life of your clothing.

Everyday care tips:
・ Use a brush or lint remover regularly
・ Let garments rest for 2–3 days between wears
・ Wash dark and light colors separately
・ Turn items inside out and follow care labels
・ Use a mesh laundry bag to maintain shape
・ Care for shoes to keep them clean and comfortable

UNIQLO offers additional guidance to help you care for your LifeWear items.

When Repair Isn’t Possible: Recycle and Repurpose

Even items that can’t be repaired still have value.

UNIQLO encourages customers to place any UNIQLO item—regardless of condition—into a RE.UNIQLO collection box.
・ Wearable items are donated if possible
・ Unwearable items may be reused as repair materials, upcycled through educational partnerships, or recycled

Shop Smarter to Extend Clothing Life

A longer life for clothing starts before you buy.

Try a mindful shopping approach:
・ Create a list of seasonal essentials
・ Note what you don’t need to avoid impulse purchases

This helps build a wardrobe that’s intentional, functional, and easy to maintain.

A Circular Approach to LifeWear

Every choice—to care, adjust, repair, donate, or recycle—helps extend the life of clothing and supports a more circular future.

LifeWear for a Lifetime isn’t just a guide. It’s an invitation to rethink how we value what we wear and how long it can remain part of our lives.
