Your 2021 Spring and Summer Guide to Tying Scarves
Consider a scarf if you’re worried your simplified spring and summer coordinates are starting to appear stale. It can instantly liven up your usual arrangements, whether wrapped stylishly around your neck or casually tied around an existing bag. But if you’re uncertain of where to start, then this detailed look at eight popular arrangements ranging from the classic around-the-neck ties to on-trend head wrapping and bag wrapping should help. Fashion illustrator and UNIQLO aficionado Nodoka joins us to illustrate the looks, too!

Bright colours, like pink and yellow, as well as natural floral patterns are in vogue this season. Adding these elements through tops or bottoms may seem difficult, but fear not. A scarf is an easy way to get an on-trend look while extending your styling options. Just add it to your existing arrangements!

Start by Mastering the “Bias Fold”

① Spread out the scarf, face down.
② Fold, so that the opposite corners meet.
Remember to fold the corner with the label first.
③ Fold one side at about 1/3 of the width. Repeat with the other side, and fold over top.
④ Fold one side at about 1/3 of the width again. Fold the section that will touch your neck one more time to complete the bias fold.

1. THE CLASSIC SIDE KNOT

① Place a bias-folded scarf against your neck’s front. Wrap and bring both ends forward.
② Move the center to either the left or right. Knot twice.

2. THE SINGLE HALF BOW TIE

① Place a bias-folded scarf against your nape. Bring the ends forward.
② Tie a half bow. Move the knot 45 degrees diagonally.

3. REVERSE TIE

① Place a bias-folded scarf against your nape. Bring the ends forward, and knot twice.
② Move the knot to the nape. Straighten.

4. The “Necktie Knot” Is Ideal for Business Looks

① Place a bias-folded scarf against your nape. Ensure one end is longer.
② Wrap the longer end around the shorter end.

③ Pull the wrapped longer end through the loop from below, and bring it over top.
④ Slide the longer end through the knot that was created in step ②, and straighten.

Expert, yet Super Easy Techniques for Styling Head Scarves
Head scarves are in the news because they’re an easy way for all to elevate their looks. Just get a few basics right, and a stylish wrap is yours.

1. HEADBAND STYLE

① Set a bias-folded scarf against your nape. Bring the ends forward and cross them at the hairline at front.
② Twist once the cross formed in step ①. Either tie the ends at back or insert the ends at the sides. Straighten.

2. THE TURBAN STYLE

① Fold the scarf to a width that covers your head’s entire top. Rest the scarf on top of your head.
② Tie the ends at your nape.

Elevate Your Bag by Styling With a Scarf
Just wrapping a scarf can instantly breathe new life into an existing bag. These are two popular styles.

1. THE ONE-KNOT WRAP

① Fold a bias-folded scarf in half. Hang it from the handle’s base.
② Slide the scarf’s ends through the loop.

2. THE HANDLE WRAP

① Place a bias-folded scarf against the handle’s middle. Wrap the left end tightly.
② Slip the end through a loop at the handle’s base.

③ Wrap the right end similar to step (1). Slip the end through a loop at the handle’s base.
④ Arrange symmetrically.
