As a self-taught photographer, what inspired you to pick up a camera?
When I finished school, my friends and I would go on road trips to national parks around Australia and this really opened my eyes to the incredible potential to document the variety of wild land. Before I knew it, I had a camera with me on all of our trips.

How did life as a photographer differ over the past year?
As with everyone else in the industry, we’ve all had to deal with cancellations and setbacks. However, it’s made me appreciate my relationships with my clients even more and allowed growth and further opportunities, which has been a blessing in disguise. It’s also allowed me to appreciate the places closer to home that I often overlooked after travelling overseas for the past few years.

As an adventure photographer, how do you stay rugged up on your cold weather, outdoor shoots?
I often shoot in seriously cold environments, so I know the importance of proper layering techniques. Lately I’ve been starting with UNIQLO’s range of HEATTECH thermals as my go to base layer. Depending on the forecasted cold, these range from regular HEATTECH which I use on a daily basis in Brisbane’s mild winter days to Extra Warm (for those adventures around 10+ degrees) and then Ultra Warm (for those 0-degree sunrise missions).
As an adventure photographer, it is really important to have the right gear and the last thing you want when you are looking to get the perfect shot is to be distracted with the cold!

What’s your favourite type of scenery/terrain to shoot in and why?
Rugged and remote mountain ranges always do it for me. There’s something about putting in the hard yards to see a sunrise from a spot not many people have before. My favourite conditions to shoot in are foggy and frosty winter mornings in the mountains. This is when the atmosphere comes to life.

What’s your most unforgettable photoshoot moment?
The absolute highlight for me would be when myself and a few mates camped on Alex Knob on New Zealand’s West Coast. We were treated to the most spectacular sunset and sunrise of our lives with a 360-degree cloud inversion around the Franz Josef Glacier and the southern alps. Truly humbling experience.
