Jess and Luke (@_aswewander) of are an Aussie and Kiwi couple who left their 9-to-5 jobs in 2017 for a life on the road and they haven’t looked back since. The couple love living a minimal lifestyle and sharing their daily experiences, travel tips and Australia’s natural beauty with their loyal social media following. Jess and Luke shared some of their many experiences and learnings from living on the road, including how they stay warm in UNIQLO’s HEATTECH.

What inspired you to pack up your life and head out on the road?
After both being a part of the daily grind for so long in Melbourne, we felt like we wanted to see more of what Australia had to offer. We totally stepped out of our comfort zones when we told our friends, family and work that we were about to leave our jobs and hit the open road. Our 'big lap' was only meant to go for 18 months before we would go back to reality but here we are three years later still on the road where we feel like we really belong.

What are your favourite and least favourite parts about living in a campervan?
Our favourite part would have to be the freedom it gives us and also waking up to a new view every day. Our least favourite would be when bad weather hits. We can only sit inside a small space for so many days in a row, we get itchy feet pretty quickly so for us to sit still for too long drives us a little bit crazy!

Have you had any noteworthy encounters (people or animals) along the way?
We recently went to Fraser Island and encountered a dingo within our first five minutes of being on the island, that was pretty incredible! We have also met a handful of people that have now become lifelong friends. Being away from the people you love most while living on the road can be really hard so connecting with like-minded people makes it feel a little more like home.

What’s your favourite place you’ve visited together and why?
There are so many beautiful places we've travelled to in Australia and overseas but our favourite would have to be the Red Centre in the Northern Territory. The culture, the red dirt, the gorges and Uluru itself are absolutely magical. That's the best word we can think of to describe the entire area. We always tell everyone if there is one place they have to visit in Australia it is there.

What are your must have travel items to keep you warm whilst you’re on the road?
We are always shooting content on our travels so we like to make sure we are practical for the weather but also well dressed. A pair of good shoes or boots, thick socks, a puffer jacket and we have recently added pieces from UNIQLO’s HEATTECH range into our wardrobes. The HEATTECH turtleneck and HEATTECH Ultra Warm Long Sleeve have been our go-to to layer or wear on their own, they pair really well with denim which is a large staple in both of our wardrobes.
