Nadine Muller (@nadinemuller) is an accredited health and fitness professional, business owner and a Registered Nurse (Res) in the Australian Defence Force. As a mum to two boys who well and truly keep her on her toes, Nadine is an advocate for living life to the fullest, with positivity and gratitude. She recently spoke to UNIQLO about these pursuits and the power of having a positive mindset.

What led you to become a registered nurse in the Australian Defense Force?
I joined the military at the tender age of 17 soon after graduating high school. Recently, I made the transition from full-time military service to working in a reservist capacity in my Nursing Officer role after a fulfilling career spanning over 13 years so I can spend more time at home raising my two young sons.

My experiences and exposure serving in the Australian Armed Forces continues to be a big part of my life and has very largely shaped in a positive way, who I am today. Notably, I also come from a long military lineage and as a young girl was incredibly inspired and passionate about proudly following in my family’s footsteps of serving in the Australian Military.

You love to speak about how positivity can help you get the most out of life. What’s your secret to achieving this mindset and how/what do you think this mindset has helped you to accomplish?
Personally, I know that adopting positive thinking has helped me the most in terms of becoming the person I strive to be (particularly as a role model to my boys) as well as professionally, in my Emergency Nursing position and as a business owner now operating full-time in social media.

It is through some of life’s most challenging and demanding situations that I have learnt time and time again that being positive and striving to make the best of whatever situation I have been presented with really does make even the most challenging situations opportunities for growth and learning.

I have a keen passion for sharing that positive approach and when implemented correctly, builds more of a backbone – coinciding with that beautiful thing called resilience. These attributes also allow us to evaluate our current circumstances and take pride in the achievements we’ve made along the way!

I firmly believe that we can’t necessarily control what happens to us but can control how we react. I always encourage others when they are next faced with negative situations to stop and challenge their thinking and be reminded that the next moves are potentially crucial to how it plays out. Just like we can drive towards negativity; we can drive ourselves to positivity too. Recognise the negative, irrational or unhelpful thought patterns and if we can learn to challenge them and rise above them that’s when the positivity seeds are sowed.

You’ve been very open about your journey as a mother on social media. Why do you feel that this has been valuable to share?
I share my learnings in life, the wins, the leaps of faith, but also the trials and tribulations.

I pride my platforms on being an open space with rawness, honesty, transparency, integrity and human kindness, with my overall aim and mission to uplift, educate, empower and motivate others to live life in the driver’s seat. I don’t shy away from the tough or the uncomfortable conversations having walked many trodden paths myself. I do this because I firmly believe that speaking out loud in truth leads to authenticity – there’s something to be said for those who demonstrate courage and strength through rawness and vulnerability – and I continue to walk in my truth in the hope that I am liberating others to do the same.

My Women’s-only Facebook community ‘RISE by Nadine Muller’ is filled with like-minded women who are wearing many hats and juggling many responsibilities. A space where us women (not just mums!) can share the highs as well as the lows, and the wins as well as the challenges! This is a supportive community made up of women who are all doing the rollercoaster of life together and can help each other along their unique journeys - we rise by lifting others and that’s what my community serves and is all about!

As a mum, nurse and content creator you are always busy, running from one thing to the next. What key winter wardrobe staples can you always rely on, no matter what the day has in store?
Since discovering UNIQLO’s HEATTECH range I would have to say that this is one of my best kept little secrets that I have finally found after trying so many and I want to scream that discovery from the rooftops!
