Active as a designer, business person and fashion journalist, Ines , who has been collaborating with UNIQLO since 2014 on a line of high-quality basics, is the embodiment of Parisian chic.

Responding to this issue’s theme, Ines offers life advice to the women of the future.

In choosing my outfit for the day, I start by looking at the weather. From there, it’s crucial that the clothing drapes naturally and feels good against the body. If you’re cold or shivering and can’t stop thinking about what you’re wearing, how are you supposed to have a good day? While fashion isn’t indispensable to life, what we wear does say something about our heart. Which is why our choice of clothing can’t be taken lightly.

In my view, Parisian chic is effortless (not laborious) and above all simple. It’s about trusting your senses and feeling free to mix and match your clothing, pairing the new with the vintage, the sporty with the elegant. The point isn’t to be seen wearing expensive clothes or the latest trends, but to find a style that suits your needs. Obviously, this outlook isn’t limited to Paris. Everywhere you go around the world, women have a chic, stylish, and elegant presence. I think Parisian chic also connects with the design concept at the core of my collaboration with UNIQLO: clothing “not for the runway, but for everyday.”

Working with UNIQLO has been a real love story. This year marks the fourteenth season since we started in 2014, and it makes me very proud that we’ve been able to continue this collaboration for so long. When working through a design, I always ask myself whether it’s something I would want to wear myself. Thanks to the thorough honesty and sincerity of our work together, I’ve been able to build a trusting relationship with UNIQLO, and a trusting relationship with our customers.

The clothing for this season of UNIQLO x INES DE LA FRESSANGE is about practical elegance, clothing designed to fit all kinds of women worldwide. With that in mind, our focus for these designs has been to offer a romantic touch, like outfits in a movie. The aim has been to create clothing that is both dreamy and wearable, helping women to be the heroes of their own stories. Getting dressed should be one of the funnest parts of any day. My sincere hope is that you’ll enjoy the clothes not because they’re fashionable, but because of what they mean to you.

What’s my message for the next generation of women? Don’t be afraid! Trust serendipity. Appreciate the good things happening in your life, don’t be prejudiced, show gratitude, and be generous, without holding back. I think you’ll find it will come back to you. And be kind to others. You’ll be sure to see the difference when you look in the mirror.

As you grow older, aging may be difficult to accept, but clinging to an earlier version of yourself is the best way to look old. Donate your old clothes to a charitable cause and buy a small amount of brand-new clothes. Adapting to new styles and staying curious goes a long way.
