Our linen comes from flax cultivated in Western Europe where it benefits from the adapted soil, cool climate and abundant rain, along with local/European growers’ long-standing expertise. It has a smooth texture and quality lustre. For this linen shirt, we've made ample use of that this quality/premium material. The shirt allows your body to breathe well, it is excellent at absorbing moisture, and it dries sweat fast, while staying smooth and comfortable in summer.
One at a time, by hand.
Since 100% natural linen has fibres with inconsistent thickness, it is essential to remove the nep that forms from clumps of fibres when twisting yarn and weaving fabric. To create softer, nicer-looking linen shirts, we carry out Through quality control. Under UNIQLO's quality control standards, our workers perform visual inspections and wield tweezers to manually hand-pick nep from each shirt at four different times in the manufacturing process, from the fabric stage to the completed product.
Fine linen deserves fine sewing.
Fine linen fabric must be carefully sewn for durability. The effort we put into applying different sewing techniques to different parts, like the way we fold over and sew the ends of the fabric in the lower sleeves and how we stitch the placket with three folds, guarantees that you can wash and wear your shirt over and over again. You can fully savor the allure of linen that grows softer with use and becomes more familiar with your body.

An item that looks great on its own. That was the shirt we were aiming for. The women's version is woven into a delicate, soft fabric by selecting the finest possible yarn count. This creates a relaxed silhouette with a beautiful drape. We've also given it an exquisite length that somewhat covers the hips when untucked. We also gave careful consideration to the collar opening, and tailored the button position for the best balance of décolleté beauty when the garment is worn unbuttoned.

A vegetable fibre from an agriculture that respects the environment, without irrigation -barring exceptional circumstances- or GMOs. European Flax™ certified flax is transformed through a mechanical process that generates no waste: from the fibre to the shives and seeds, the entire plant is used and valorised.

Making the fabric for UNIQLO’s premium linen shirts begins with spinning high-quality flax grown in western Europe into yarn. After removing impurities from the raw material, the fibres are combed and straightened. This combing process is repeated five times to produce a radiant, beautiful yarn. In the subsequent dyeing process, a unique colour scheme recipe for each shirt colour is prepared from a combination of 120 types of dyes. The finished material is a beautifully coloured, high-quality, and lustrous fabric. Finally, the neps (knots) typical in natural materials are carefully removed by hand, one by one. This careful attention to detail, from raw materials to weaving, gives these premium linen shirts a pleasing shine.
