UNIQLO to Open Third NYC Store
UNIQLO is proud to announce it will open its third New York City location at 31 West 34th Street. The 34th Street store is set to open late in the fall of 2011, following the opening of the largest UNIQLO Global Flagship in the world on New York’s prestigious Fifth Avenue in early fall 2011. These stores will join the current UNIQLO location in Manhattan’s Soho district.
To orchestrate this in New York, UNIQLO will be establishing a presence on the vaunted and upscale Fifth Avenue and the historical 34th Street. With this, UNIQLO will embark this month on a recruitment program to hire the first of an unprecedented 1,000 retail associates and 100 supervisors from the local tri-state area.
Fast Retailing (FR), the parent company of UNIQLO, is targeting 5 trillion yen (approximately $59.5 billion) in sales and 1 trillion yen (approximately $11.9 billion) in profits by 2020. To meet these targets FR plans to continue to open UNIQLO stores in major U.S. cities, expanding its presence in the U.S market to provide consumers with an unparalleled shopping experience and the best in innovative high quality, affordable apparel.
All new UNIQLO employees will be trained in accordance with the FR Way- “Changing clothes. Changing conventional wisdom. Change the world.” This unique and specialized training program ensures the same quality of service and shopping experience in all stores and teaches all employees to think globally while putting the customer first. There are currently 50 UNIQLO retail managers, many of them recent college graduates, participating in this program to learn about the UNIQLO corporate philosophy and they will form the foundation for the company’s future growth in North America. In the future, these employees will play an instrumental role in guiding UNIQLO and the FR Group to the coveted status of the world’s number one apparel retailer; the goal set by FR CEO Tadashi Yanai.
