November 13, 2020, Singapore – This festive season, UNIQLO, the Japanese global apparel retailer, is bringing the best shopping adventures to customers in the heart of town, with different concepts in three stores along Orchard Road.

With two newly-renovated stores at Plaza Singapura and ION Orchard set to open on 20 November and 27 November respectively, and Orchard Central being the flagship store in the heart of Orchard Road, customers can enjoy a trio of unique retail experiences in a single shopping destination in UNIQLO TOWN.

THREE STORES, THREE EXPERIENCES
Each store now boasts a distinct retail personality that offers shoppers different experiences. UNIQLO at Plaza Singapura is a family-friendly store where the young and old can hang out and discover the importance of sustainability. UNIQLO ION Orchard will be the new retail stage for local arts and culture, while the brand’s flagship at Orchard Central will champion its philosophy of LifeWear, carrying the most comprehensive product lineup.

Joyce Tan, Marketing Director of UNIQLO Singapore, says: “We are pleased to announce the grand openings of both our newly expanded UNIQLO ION Orchard and UNIQLO Plaza Singapura stores this November. UNIQLO TOWN is a new retail destination set within the Orchard Road shopping belt and this comes just in time for the festive season.”

“We hope that shoppers will enjoy discovering the three unique shopping experiences within UNIQLO TOWN, and we can’t wait for them to see what else we have in store for them in the months to come.”

UNIQLO PLAZA SINGAPURA - THE NEW FAMILY HANGOUT

The new UNIQLO Plaza Singapura store will be reopening on 20 November in a new location within the mall. Its new location spans two floors across #02-16 and #03-11/30/32. The store will serve as a new space for families to hang out at, with in-store activities suitable for customers of all ages to participate in.

A corner of the new store will be carved out to feature sustainability initiatives and local partnerships, with different themes and topics rotating every few months to engage customers with sustainability-related content. To kick off the opening of the store, the first sustainability theme in the spotlight will be Upcycling.

Local embroiderer Inez from Inez Designs will do embroidery on pre-loved UNIQLO clothes to be displayed in the Sustainability Corner. A video on basic embroidery techniques will also be provided via a QR code to be scanned in the store, which will help educate shoppers on giving their old clothes a new lease of life through embroidery.

Kids are also welcomed to submit their drawings via Instagram with the hashtag #ReUniqlo, where two to three winning designs will be selected every month to be turned into actual embroidery work on UNIQLO’s Eco bags by Inez Designs, so that the young ones can start their sustainability journey early.

Besides that, environmental social enterprise Terra SG will display items made from UNIQLO fabric, and showcase videos to educate the public on upcycling with purpose. UNIQLO will also work with Paper Carpenter, a local cardboard design agency, to build structures for its in-store Sustainability Corner using 100% recyclable cardboard, instead of the usual plywood. Cardboard is a known sustainable material and is one of the easiest and most environmentally effective materials to recycle since cardboard fibres have already been processed.

To celebrate the new store’s opening, shoppers will receive limited-edition novelties with minimum spend in-store on the first two consecutive weekends.

Art takes centre stage in the new UNIQLO ION Orchard store, which reopens on 27 November, with an in-store wall art installation by homegrown visual artist MindFlyer, capturing the evolution of Orchard Road.

On the new art installation, Michael Ng, who goes by the alias MindFlyer, says: “This is a whimsical visionary depiction of a couple discovering a future city garden of Orchard Road. As you explore, you will learn about its history as you stumble upon past and present landmarks throughout the garden; from its humble beginnings in the 1830s of orchards, gambier and pepper plantations to its current status as a renowned dazzling shopping district of Asia.”

In line with UNIQLO’s initiative of supporting local talents, UNIQLO ION Orchard will provide a platform for Singaporean artists to showcase their works, with plans in place to change out the artwork continuously over the months.

Michael adds: “I think this is a great initiative by UNIQLO to give homegrown artists a space to work on and display their artworks in the UNIQLO ION Orchard store. It is a great show of support for rising local talents and definitely a step in the right direction to boost the local art scene.”
