UNIQLO Launches ‘Minnie Mouse Loves Dots’ Collection in collaboration with Olympia Le-Tan

UNIQLO is proud to announce the launch of the ‘Minnie Mouse Loves Dots’ Collection, a special collaboration with fashion designer Olympia Le-Tan as part of MAGIC FOR ALL, the global UNIQLO collaboration with the Walt Disney Company to bring the dreams and delights of Disney to people around the world through clothes.

The UNIQLO T-shirt (UT) collection will be available at all stores and online at www.uniqlo.com/sg from 10 April 2017. Items in the collection will be priced at $14.90 for a Girls' UT, $19.90 for a Womens' UT, and $29.90 for a Shoulder Bag.

The 'Minnie Mouse Loves Dots' Collection conveys the story of Minnie Mouse creating a handmade dress in a dot pattern. The collection is made up 23 items, comprising six accessories, including a two-way shoulder bag arranged in the style of Olympia Le-Tan’s characteristic book-clutches, 11 styles of Women’s UT, and six styles of Girls’ UT.

Collection Concept

The ‘Minnie Mouse Loves Dots’ Collection centers on Minnie’s trademark dots and classic vintage colour blue dress motif, infused with a fantasy world imagined by Olympia Le-Tan. The art used for the products was created especially for this collection from the story developed by Olympia and drawn by Disney artists. Speaking about the concept, Olympia Le-Tan said, “It was fun researching all the vintage Minnies, watching the old cartoons and working on all the poses. It was challenging trying to find a story that made the collaboration all come together, but once we had our concept, everything made sense.”


Collection Details

T-shirts feature printing in handcrafted styles, such as embroidery arranged as if Minnie had sewn dots on a dress, reproduced felt applique, as well as ribbons and bobbins. The body is a trendy short length, volume silhouette, which can be enjoyed in stylish combinations with a wide range of items. The girls’ items have patterns to match the women’s, for mothers and daughters to enjoy together. The shoulder and clutch bags also have a reproduced felt applique, and printed with dot and ribbon patterns. Olympia Le-Tan commented, “My favourite detail is the way the print looks like an embroidery. I love the magic of this effect. It mirrors the way my embroideries look on my classic book-clutches.” The lineup of other accessories includes bags modeled on Olympia’s signature clutches.


Collection Inspiration

Speaking of the inspiration behind the collection, Olympia Le Tan said, “I was really excited to be working again with UNIQLO, which has so many of the items I like, such as T-Shirts, leggings, and knits. Having the chance to work on a project with my favorite childhood icon Minnie Mouse was wonderful. This time, we created new artwork and a new story but with one of the most popular icons there is. For me that’s really special. We also tried to make it playful and quirky but classic enough for it to be wearable by all. It was a much more complicated process, but I think this definitely makes the collaboration even better and more exciting.” Yuki Katsuta, Executive Director of Global Research and Design, Fast Retailing said, “Olympia Le-Tan conveys her spirit and passion for art through creations that show the influence of her illustrator father, and the style of embroidery she inherited from her grandmother. When these ideas from all three places come together, we were able to create a special collection that truly embodies the spirit of MAGIC FOR ALL.”
